Trouble Partitioning an iPod

I have an 80GB iPod and want to create a partition for data on it that is NTFS. Disk Director is giving me an error message saying there is not enough space. It is reading the iPod drive as full... but it has over 50GB free. Why is it doing that?

It appears Acronis doesn’t work well with iPod. I worked around this problem last night but it should be addressed as iPod is a external drive.

I shouldn’t have to carry around a flash drive loaded with Dmailer, portable apps and an encrypted vault along with an iPod that has over 50GB’s of space on it. They can all run on the iPod.

iPod has to be left at FAT32 or it won’t run – but there should be no problem creating an additional partition with NTFS on it so I don’t have to carry around 2 devices to get it done. In the end the encrypted vault was configured to NTFS but it’s obviously only 3.99GB’s.

Hoping you fix this in the future…

Right now the iPod is working like an iPod as well as using it for “other things”… like Dmailer, etc. I don’t know how it would handle repartitioning. I was thinking it would be better, i.e., safer for the iPod if it had a separate partition that handled things other than what the device was made to do – play music. But that doesn’t make it so… I wanted to test this using DD but clearly wasn’t able to.

But, as I said… everything is rocking and rolling in more ways than one right now…. No need to bring my flash drive with me anymore. Cool!

Update

Update – When I open the encrypted vault running NTFS on the iPod didn’t like it. I didn’t rebel with a raging fist or anything… it was just “perturbed.” It might have handled it better if it was partitioned and running NTFS but we can’t know that right now. Until we can test that using DD, leave the iPod at FAT32.
