Hi, gang -- long time, no see.

Starting this morning (18Mar04), I can no longer update Ver2. I have one month left on my current license renewal. With the current flood of nasty code being released by the virus/worm idiots, any update refusal is NOT A GOOD THING. Taking a quick look I see at least one other individual is having the same problem. I have tried the copy/paste thing and a complete re-enter with no luck. What to do?

    HELP! :D

Try to contact the resellers from which you has get that, or contact Paul Wilders, maybe he'll help you.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what good contacting a guy on a cell phone riding around out in California would do -- been there, done that. I have submitted a support request via the web site though I don't hold much hope on getting a reply -- been there, done that, too. I am now six updates behind including versions of Bagle. I sure would like to have *those* sigs, it's a bad boy.

Maybe Jan or one of the other guys will see this and offer some help. If not, I will try an emal to Jan and/or Paul. NOD32 Ver2 sure has been running good to all of a sudden go TU.

    Thanks for the help.

You can renew your license for Nod at any stage, the license period starts from when you first purchased, i.e. purchased 10 March 2003, can be renewed prior to 10 March, new license would still start 10 March 2004. You can request a license from any local reseller within your area, or if there isn't one, from the distributor of the Country you are in.

Licenses NOT renewed within 30 days of expiry require purchase on a NEW license, they can NOT be renewed.

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers :D

Started trying to update a couple of hours ago (19Mar04) using auto-select on server -- no luck. It was using server 3. Manually selected servers beginning with 4 (hey -- I'm just naturally backwards :D ) and was able to update from server #1. Was still getting "incorrect user or pass" on other three servers. Now 2 hours later I can connect to ANY server with success. Go figure.

If it's a server problem, why do I get the "user/pass" error message? You only get the error msg *after* you cancel out of the password dialog box, not after the handshake and response. I know the servers were responding because I sniffed the traffic. Oh, well -- maybe it was just a temp glitch. This is the ONLY problem I have experienced with ver2 (not counting the betas) so I'm a happy camper. Hopefully this won't happen again.

We have found it best to leave the update settings for Servers to "Choose Automatically", Virus Databases and Program Component Updates both set to "Automatically".

I have had SO Many clients just say NO to Program Component updates because they didn't know what it was, that we now set it to "Automatically" as default, before their PC leaves the shop.

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers :D

    Spoke too soon. ((sigh))

I am now back to not being able to update from ANY server.

OK, ESET guys -- what's going on. Please fix this.

You sure you don't have something else blocking updates, such as a firewall?

    Yep -- positive.

I have been using NOD32 for -- well, a long time, been using Ver2 since the first beta, and have been updating the released version since it came out. Plus, I am not exactly what you would call computer and/or security illiterate. :D

Nothing has changed, including my firewall, except I can't get updates as of yesterday (with the exception of this morning). I am assuming it is a server problem since I was able to update this morning. Thanks for the tip, though. :)

That's ok, still coming at it from different directions, as though you walked into my shop...

Have you run CWShredder available in the "Privacy Software" section of this site?

    Windows up-to-date?

Run a full scan with Nod, did it come up clean?

Does your Nod32 System Tools\Information look like the following (if you are running XP)

    Understood

Nope -- don't know what it is and connection was refused trying to get to the site to see what it is. I understand that you trust it but I don't know you, either. :D

Yep to both. Full system check is done every day -- and with more than just NOD32. Somebody would have to be at my keyboard while I was logged in and know several passwords to install ANYTHING or run any scripts and that ain't gonna happen.

Nope -- I'm at 1.680 'cause I can't update. The rest is good to go.

I am *certain* nothing has changed on my system and that no nasty code has found its' way in. I have too many things "watching". Not to say it is impossible, but it's around 99.99999999999 -- well, you get the idea.

Again, since I could not update yesterday, could this morning, and now can't again, I tend to think it is server-side and not something goofy on my system. Plus, there are posts today from others having the same problem.

    Thanks for the help!

CWShredder http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=14086 removes Browser Hijacks, we have seen so many systems that are set up well but are having various connection problems.

And your servers for Nod defiantely set to "Choose Automatically"?

    Cheers :D

Ah, OK -- I'm using something else to handle that. Not too many are hijacking a locked-down Firebird, anyway. I don't think that would affect the Nod connection, though, because it doesn't use your browser. I could be wrong. I *was* wrong once but I divorced her. hehheh

Doesn't make any difference -- auto or set to individual server, still can't update. The only way I could update this AM was to take it OFF auto and choose a server. Three of them gave the same error and then server #1 let me update.

Your not alone... I'm getting the same thing... I'm actually pretty mad about it because I just discovered that I haven't received new signitures for a couple days.. No warning by NOD, just sat there quite as can be until I noticed and clicked the update now button.

All I get is user name and password incorrecto_O what's going on?

Don't know -- 'tis a mystery. Since I was so close to my renewal date, I went ahead and purchased a renewal. My new pass and user is working, at least for now. We'll see what happens.

I advise ALL my clients to make sure Nod is up-to-date EVERY time they connect to the internet, BEFORE they go anywhere near their email program:

"a" to make sure Nod is updating - it is an automated man-made program and one day it WILL fail
    and
"b" to make sure they have the latest updates for the latest emails about to come down onto their system.

Are you close to your renewal date? It really seems to be a Server authentication problem, I think Marcos needs to address this.

    Cheers :D

I have no idea when my renewal date is. My guess is that's the problem. I just expected nod to tell me when I needed to renew.... sure would be a little more user friendly than the current error.

    thanks for the help.

The last program update of NOD in January or February included a feature that provides a pop up reminder to renew a couple days or so before the renewal is due. Previously ESET sent an email to the user's email address they have on record a couple days before the renewal date.

OK groupies -- found my problem with a little help from ESET.

Got a response from support -- from Jan, no less -- in two days time. That's got to be some kind of a record, almost fell out of my chair. :D (Way to go, Jan -- thank you!!)

Here's the deal -- he said my license had expired! Humm -- ok, lets see. I keep a hard copy of all my purchases so I whipped out the ol' file. Now, my last receipt clearly states the expirey is 18April04. OK, lets look a little further. I went all the way back to my original purchase and my anniversery date *is* 18Mar so the "license expired" is absolutely correct. I guess there was some kind of hitch in the get-a-long that caused the 18April date to appear. So, a big stir on my part about nothing -- I owed them some cash. Done deal. A combination of errors -- mine and the last receipt.

That still doesn't explain how I was able to update once after it stopped. ((shrug))

BTW, I got no "popup" stating my license was about to expire or any email to that effect. Check your date, guys!

Thanks, Jan -- you were right as usual.

Hi Phil, glad to see it was something simple in the end. You should have had a pop-up after the last component update, are you sure you have the latest engine for Nod? This so called "feature" arrived a month or so ago, causing me to blow steam due to it directing my customers to the USA  It is ever so slightly better now, directing them to the countries distributor, though this is also NOT a feature that either the distributor or resellers want.

For those that do not know, renewal is always taken from the anniversary date of your original purchase. It does NOT grow each year by stretching out when you make your renewal payment (this would effectively give you 13 months protection for the price of 12 – allowing for you not paying until the 30th day past your expiry date).

Glad to see it was sorted...

    Cheers :D

I'm pretty sure I'am running the latest, can someone verify? I never received the warning about my account expiring.
