    Hello.

I am currently researching anti-virus options for a new computer build. I've been told that Nod32 is among the best out there, and I'm interested in perhaps using v4 when I get my new rig together.

One thing I'm worried about, though, is that Eset's virus threat encyclopedia has no entry for the Win32/Vitro rootkit/virus. I'm unsure if the stories I've heard are exaggerations, but Vitro sounds akin to the viral apocolypse. Apparently it can infect without user input, corrupts files wholesale, and requires an OS reinstallation to get rid of it. Plus, some folks at the Avast forums report the virus somehow surviving reformatting of their drives! Does Nod32 currently defend against this threat?

Additionally: I plan tp use my computer to play games regularly, and will likely be interested in using Valve's Steam client. According to Valve, Nod32 conflicts with Steam and both cannot tolerate each other. Does anyone know if v4 has remedied this issue? Thanks.

AFAIK Vitro is an alias for Virut. However, we've seen a huge number of FPs reported by other AVs so take this detection with a grain of salt.

I am only going by what the official valve page says here.

And if I am merely getting my names for these rootkit virus infections mixed up, I appologize! I'll look into the correct names to ensure Nod32 provides full protection. I gather this particular beast is a polymorphic virus that is rather devistating, so perhaps no A/V software can catch it.

ESET calls this particular virus - Win32/Virut. And it is a complete pain. I had an entire building infected with it, even though every computer had a completely patched and updated copy of Symantec. This sorry situation required a complete reimage - top to bottom. However, NOD32 stopped it cold.

In terms of Steam.... I have not had a single problem using it with NOD32 installed.

I play Dawns of War 2. Sadly this game require Steam.

Haven't had any trouble as of yet.
