    Hi,
I've been a fan and customer of TI since Ver6 with my current version (v9) sufficing for my XP installation.

Now having Vista I thought it would be beneficial to upgrade to the latest TI offering. I downloaded and installed the 2009 Home Trial version (v12) from the site where it states that "The Trial version of Acronis True Image Home is fully operational but works only for 15 days."

    But is it?

Rightly or wrongly, I install TI long enough to make a bootable CD media and then create my "true" images after booting off the CD.

After installing on my Vista Business (32bit) Toshiba I created an image to a destination folder on my SMB sever and then created the CD.

Here are the issues when booting from the CD :
    1. I was not able to access the previously created image in the sub folder on the SMB server. I could only see as far as the published share and not any of its sub folders.
    2. When I tried to create an image of my Toshiba partition to the destination of the published share on the SMB server I got the following message "... it is not possible to commit the operations ..."

So much for "... fully operational ..."!

If I buy the real version will I be able to descend into sub folders on my SMB server?

    Thnx

This sounds like a password-type issue. Perhaps someone who regularly does backups via the CD to a SMB server can offer some advice. Does it work without a problem with your TI 9?

Yes, the Trial CD will not create backups. It will restore them.

Of course, if the CD did create backups, someone might not bother buying the product at all since the CD can't be time limited the way the full installation can.

For the same reason, the CD won't do disk clones.

    Thnx for the response.
So, it is guaranteed the the full version will boot and create images from the CD?

Yes. I've been using v9 boot CD to create images directly to subfolders on my SMB server. Authentication hasn't been an issue in the past when using the "Computers near me" on my intranet. For v12 I have tried "NT authentication"; explicit user account and even root. Is this just another not "... fully functional ..." shortcoming of the trialware or even Home 2009?

As you can imagine, I am very reluctant to purchase the product if I cannot save to the file server using a boot CD.

I may be wrong but I think I saw a recent thread here that says that the trial version under windows is fully operational. But the boot disk created using the trial version is not fully functional.

The thread said that without this then there was no incentive for anyone to buy the software.

I hope this helps. Acronis should be able to confirm this.

The hardware support in TI2009 appears to be much better than in previous versions of the Linux-based rescue CD but unfortunately there is no certainty that the TI CD will work with your system until you demonstrate it. However, the non-trial version of the CD does have the ability to create images and should work.

And, if you have a problem, Acronis Tech Support may be able to provide a special boot CD that will do the job.

The fact that you can boot successfully from the Trial CD makes it most likely that everything will work as expected with the paid version.

    Hello all,

Thank you for your interest in Acronis True Image

I can confirm that the trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2009 has the following limitations:

    - Under Windows the program is completely functional, 15 days trial period.

    - Under Acronis Booting Rescue Media the Recovery option is available only.

krombit, I am sending you an ISO file to create another Acronis Booting Rescue Media. The new CD should be able to get the access to the subfolder.

    Thank you.
