Problem restoring to a SATA drive (Tureimage V11)

I have been Acronis Tureimage V11 for a while, and I created a "clean" image with it in event of emergency. Lucky enough, I never had to perform a restore on my system partition until today....

I am running XP on my PC, and
most of the HDDs on in my computer are SATA, including the system drive, which TureImage detected OK whilst in XP.

I tried to perform a "full restore" today, following the instructions, I selected the corrected drive and partition where I want the image restored to.

After a short wait, TureImage asked me to reboot the PC so it could restore the system partition.
It then boot into the TureImage software and performed some scan on the drives, and then WITHOUT restoreing the partition, it rebooted to XP.

No log showing what happened, so I inserted the Bootable Rescure Media and booted into the TureImage software to perform the restore manually, and it can not detect my SATA drives.

I have a couple of questions in here:

1) How can I restore the image to a active SATA drive?
2) Can the TureImage 2009 (OEM from intel MB) create bootable image on DVD? if so, can this version restore the images created via Tureimage V11?

With TrueImage all versions, your best chance of success when restoring your boot drive is to perform the restore when booted from the TI Rescue CD. Windows sometimes balks at restoring an active drive.

You indicate the V11 Rescue CD does not see your Sata drive. Just Double Check. Boot again from the V11 Rescue CD and click on the MyComputer directory tree. Often times, the drives are hidden under the MyComputer listing.

If the Sata Drive is still not seen, make sure you are using the latest build of v11. You might also try changing the BIOS to run your disk in IDE compatibility mode.

You can also see if Acronis Support can give you some updated drivers.

Yes, the trial and licensed version of TI2009 should normally restore your V11 backup archives.

If you do decide to try the 2009 version, suggest you make a new full backup of your system which would include all partitions (both hidden or diagnostic) before uninstalling v11.

Once you install the trial of 2009, you can then make your trial REscue CD's and use it to restore your system back when it had v11 installed--if that is your choice.

Once TI 2009 is installed, the trial version can be updated simply by purchasing a serial number and entering the new serial number into the trial program.

 

Trueimage still failed to detect all my SATA drive in linux after ensureing the SATA drives are running in IDE mode; Intrerestingly, all my USB drives detected OK.

My intel oem copy of trueimage is also V11.... i see little reason to try it.

Anyone got any suggestion?

 

Very likely the problem is that the TI11 Linux recovery environment does not properly support your disk controller. Do as GroverH suggested and download the trial version of TI2009 and make the rescue CD and then try the restore. The TI2009 trial disk will restore existing images but will not create them.

 

Can the latest update of TrueImage 2009 now create bootable image on DVD?
(for 1 partition ONLY of a HDD)

 

For the past couple of versions or so there is an option to "include Acronis components" when creating an image to a DVD. This will supposedly make the DVD bootable; I have never tried it.

 

Without updating to Trueimage 2009, is there anyway to include the drivers needed in the "linux mode"

Dont really want to switch to 2009 as it cost extra...

You can try one of these support workaround's:

- Boot the computer from Acronis True Image bootable rescue disc (Full version);
- Hit F11 key after the "Starting Acronis Loader..." message appears and you get to the selection screen of the program;
- After you get the "Linux Kernel Settings" prompt, please add "acpi=off noapic" parameter (without quotes) to the end of the Linux kernel command line (so it will be "quiet acpi=off noapic");
- Click OK button.

If this works, check your program options to see if this can be added by you to the REscue CD while it is being burnt.

Or, you can try contacting Acronis Live Chat and see if they can offer you a file which has this option already built into the file.

Unfortunately I have the same problem - the rescue disk (linux) cannot see mySata drives (motherboard ASUS P5Q-E with Intel Soutbridge controller). I have used Acronis with great satsifaction for many years but this is a great problem as I had hd failure, Acornis image on USB drives which was verified after backup is suddenly corrupt? and image on extra sata drives is not accessible from boot disk.
