I am using True Image Home 2009 on a Dell desktop running XP Home SP3. It was working fine. Today, I was going to use True Image to clean up an old 40GB USB drive. I started using the shredder, and after 2 hours decided it would take too long, even though I marked "fast method". I hit cancel, which was successful, as it congratulated me an told me the progress it had made. I closed True Image, then used XP to format the partitions. I was then going to use True Image to remove the partitions. When I tried to restart it, I got the "flash" showing it analyzed all the disks and was "initializing...", the tray marker showed "processing..."This goes on for as long as I'm willing to wait (more than 10 minutes) Using Task Manager, the process is "not responding" and using 100% of the cpu. I rebooted, removed the USB drive, same result. Then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling True Image (sucessfully)- same result. The program refuses to work on this computer. Any ideas?

Which build of ATI 2009 are you running?

    Is it build 9709?

Press the ALT key for menu which has the build number.

I think it was the current build, but just in case, I downloaded 9709 and installed it over the old version, as a Repair. This had no effect. Since I can't get it to run, I can't really see the version.

OK. The instructions were not quite correct- Services are under Control Panel on XP. I was able to find this service, and turn it off, plus disable it. I guess I am ok with not having it running. However, it had no effect on True Image. This service was always running before, and never had a negative impact on True Image. Now that it is not running, it does not have a positive affect. In other words, this service has nothing whatever to do with how True Image works. Any other ideas?

Since this is just the same even after uninstalling and reinstalling, I fear that True Image is one of those programs that does not really ever "uninstall". Something is left behind, and whatever that something is, it's preventing the program from running because it's corrupted. Any ideas of where things might be hidden by True Image so I can try to get rid of them? Anybody from Acronis listening?

I tried another uninstall, then ran CCLEANER to remove any bad registry entries and any temps files, etc. Looking at the files/folders with Explorer, I can't find anything obvious left behind. Then I reinstalled build 9709 (fresh download), and got the exact same result. The flash page comes up, analyzes the disks/partitions, says it's deleting obsolete scripts, then goes into initialize- forever. The process is running taking 100% of the cpu if it can get it, and the program never opens. It is worthless. Unless I can figure out what is being left behind in the uninstall and get rid of it, I'm screwed. Does anyone from Acronis read this?

For future reference: if anyone ever needs to really uninstall True Image, use RevoUninstaller (freeware). It searches all your registry entries regarding the program you're uninstalling, and the entire filesystem. It found at least 5 registry entries and 30+ files left behind by the True Image uninstaller. After using Revo, I was able to reinstall the latest version of True Image Home 2009, and IT WORKS! Thanks to those who tried to help. :)

Thank you for that. I was unaware of that utility before. Revo seemed to do a good job though, and it can thoroughly remove pretty much anything by the same methods. ;)
