What size USB stick do you have?

Can you see files on the drive?

Is your PC able to boot from flash drives? Flash drives often report themselves differently to USB hard drives and the BIOS might be sensitive to that.

Get into the BIOS setup of your PC and if it allows you, set boot order to be USB\CD\HDD then if it has it, set boot priority to USB F10 out, accept changes and attach flash drive see what happens on reboot.

ok after my last post i noticed the links on mud crab post
Create a Bootable Flashdrive Using Vista's DISKPART Program

i did that then created a boot disk again and now it trys to start acronis but makes a bleep and comes up with error (acronis loader fatal error - bood drive partition not found )

so im getting somewhere but then nowhere :(

The feature of TI to put the recovery media on an USB device works only with flash drives (thumb drive) and it doesn't work with some of them. It doesn't work with external USB hard drives.

If you are making a bootable CD with the recovery media, you can make that on an external USB CD/DVD writer. However, unless your computer is designed to boot from an external USB optical drive, you won't be able to boot from it.

Try the disk in an ordinary internal CD or DVD reader or writer that has been set to be the boot device ahead of the hard drive in BIOS. The disk should boot the system that way without a problem.

Do you have another computer available that can boot USB flashdrives? If so, does it boot properly on it? This would help determine if the flashdrive has been created properly and TI is just having a problem loading on your computer.

Does the Grub4DOS ISO booting method work?

    Hello all,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image

mrgee, I may recommend to create Acronis Booting Rescue Media on a CD disk and check the possibility to boot the system under it. This will help to localize the issue. If the standard version of Acronis Booting Rescue Media burned onto CD disk fails to boot, I can provide you with an ISO file based on ISOLINUX loader to boot from USB drive using Grub4DOS.

Paul, have you tried our ISOLINUX file and Grub4DOS?

    Thank you.

    Oleg,

No, I haven't tried your ISOLINUX file with Grub4DOS as I don't have one. If you want to send me a PM with a link, I would be happy to try it. I have successfully booted several other ISOLINUX-based ISO files using the later versions of Grub4DOS.
