NIS 2009 worth a shot?

My dad bought a 3 user liscense and uses NIS 2009. I currently got a free Avira Premium Key, and am using that along with Comodo Firewall, and Defense+.


I'm wondering if I should get NIS 2009 a shot, I'm on my Vista x64 machine.

Any suggestions? It's free for me.

 

well u can try it if ud like, i personally dont like Norton in general so my advice wuld be stick with Avira, but its ur call if u wanna just test it out.

 

I didn't like Norton either, but after hearing great things about NIS 2009, I'm tempted to try it. No more resource hogging, yay.

 

It's very very quick. I used it for about 3 months, but when my subscription ran out I gave up on it.

Prevention of an infection is good, but not amazing and as for SONAR it's just a softened Antibot.

 

i tried norton 09 and personally didnt find it as light as people say, yes hell of a lot lighter than any previous version and certainly light enough but it didnt really go above my expectations or anything special really.

 

If you were me, would you stay with what I have? Or try NIS 2009? My dad has the license, so I'm not paying.

 

id say stick with Avira for sure

 

If you're a gamer and not a risky surfer go with Norton, otherwise stick with your setup.

Doesn't slow down gameplay even with all protection on. Avira for me does? I have disable the guard in order to get cutting edge performance

Yup really Sometimes the trickle updates do interrupt with gameplay thought.

 

if uve been using ur Avira setup for all this time and uve been satisfied, then i say thers no point in changing

Did Avira ever affect Ping for anyone?

 

nis2009 is excellent. i have it on all the machines my wife and mom etc run because its quiet and doesnt bother them. it uses hardly any resources and is lightning fast. its not my personal fav but overall a very nice program. it imo has really good detection but not as good as avira

 

I'd stick with Avira. Norton seems to have more of a performance impact on my machine.

 

I still use Norton 09 on my Laptop never had problems

I'm using NIS09 along with Prevx3 and Defensewall and it works quite well. NIS09 was surprisiingly light when I dumped ZonaAlarm Security Suite (they pissed me off with buggy releases) and decided to retry Norton after a 3 year hiatus. Now I've got this combo on all of my and my family's machines.

I'm NOT a gamer, BUT my boys are and they haven't compalined about performance with this combo even though they're two year old machines.

However, you may need more performance than them and I can't give you any guarantee - just another vote that NIS09 might be worth trying out for a bit. As always, YMMV.

 

Lol, it is always amusing to see the some of the veterans on this forum try to turn every topic into an A vs B thread.

I have Avira Premium on my main box, but I have to administer some Symantec boxes.

My recommendation is, if Avira is working fine for you, with no problems, stick with it.
If not, go with NIS 2009.

Both are great software.

Go ahead and laugh if you want. OP asked for input and I think he got fairly balanced input. It's not and A vs B thread as you imply, it's an A OR B thread. If you think there's no diference, stick around a bit and it'll come to you.

It's not "versus" when either way is with decent capable software and there is consensus that OP shouldn't be afraid to try what works out best for their situation.
