    Still having problems too.
Not as much as with the pre version... but I still have to disable the firewall to get pages displayed.

I don't care who you are, that right there is fun-nay. "Whut, I don't see nuttin." :p

I guess if I weren't doing anything with my computer except running ESS, maybe everything would be fine :dunno:

I can tell you this straight up though. Yes I joined under the name JoeBingo in 2008, yes I had another SN before that, maybe JimLeft or ched-something (maybe both) and I forgot the log in and password because I never used it because I never had a problem with NOD32/ESET and yes, I have constantly used NOD32/ESET LOoooog before that even.

What I am trying to say is that I have been a NOD32/ESET user for maybe nine or ten years I think and I have seen the quality of product to market deteriorate in the last year or so.

Don't get me wrong, the apps have still worked remarkably well in protecting my computer from all sorts of nasties, but I have noticed buggy modules, inconsistent performance and annoying anomalies like I NEVER saw before.

I'm just a simple end product user. I don't come on here to BS. If I have a problem, I post and try and get an answer. It is obvious that myself and "a few" others are having and have been having some issues with certain aspects of ESS. Am I ready to hang it up ... no I have been a loyal user for QUITE some time and have every confidence that ESET will iron things out. I appreciate the effort and quality product they produce most of the time.

Now, if someone wants to personally attack me for my honest appraisal of a product that I have faithfully used for so long and will hang onto until my computer is halted, I can not access the Internet or experience frequent "infections", well then flame away. But, do not deny that there are no problems whatsoever or play stupid. By the way, post count alone does not impress me. Believe it or not, it is not ALWAYS the end users fault if there is a problem ... right ESET ;)

By the way, my name is James Harrell. I have lived all over the US in the years that I have used NOD32/ESET and while active duty military. I am retired now. It would be interesting for someone at ESET to look up exactly how long I have been using their product. I said nine or ten years, but I think it may be longer.

I agree 100%. Quality trend is definitely headed down.

Most likely it will be released next week for those who have "Test mode" enabled in the update setup. Enabling this option will make the program download beta versions of modules which have already been carefully tested in ESET's lab and no problems were found.

If you're having a specific problem with firewall blocking communication, try the following in the given order:
    - disable "Block unsafe addresses after attack detection" in the IDS section of the firewall setup
    - enable logging blocked connections in the IDS setup, reproduce the problem and check the firewall log for detail. Since this option serves only for debugging purposes, remember to disable it eventually
    - download and install Wireshark, close all network-aware applications not necessary for reproducing the issue, start capturing the communication and reproduce the issue. When done, send the Wireshark pcap log to support[at]eset.com along with a description of the issue and the firewall log exported to a text file.

    Hey guys...some questions:

    1. Have any of you folks tried uninstalling/reinstalling your NIC's?

    2. Anyone tried Resetting Browser Connection settings?

    3. Have you looked in ESS's Advanced settings>Web Access Protection>HTTP,HTTPS>Web Browsers>Active Mode? I know at leat the browsers are set for scanning by default the very first time you open it after installing ESS. Maybe the Active Mode is getting ticked too?

    4. Is it possible that the ThreatSense, Stealth, and or HIPS mods are causing the issues and not the Firewall mod?

Personally, I keep all module but antispam filter disabled as I often fiddle with malware :) If I were a typical user, I wouldn't probably enable it either. The thing is that in this mode files are first downloaded by the http scanner and then passed to the appropriate application which may cause problems if the application doesn't expect longer delays while trying to download a file. On the other hand, only active mode 100% ensures that no already recognized threat will slip through the http scanner. Under normal cicumstances, threats should be detected in passive mode, too, but you can never be sure how browsers/applications work before you figure it out yourself.

Interesting. I wonder if you could disable as many network-aware applications not necessary to replicate the problem as possible and create 2 Wireshark logs, one with the firewall disabled and one with firewall enabled. While reproducing the problem, leave logging blocked connections in the IDS setup enabled. Let me know when done so that I can PM you the email address where you can send the 2 logs along with the firewall log exported to a text file.
