I visited Smokey's security forum to see if I might want to join. However, every time I accessed a new page or post, the forum popped up a nag screen that blocked the view with a list of reasons why I ought to register. Thus, it was a hassle even trying to peacefully read through the forum in order to determine if I might want to join.

End result - the multiple pop-ups didn't make me want to register. Instead, they caused me to leave. Maybe they will fix that some day -- I hope.

Yeah, I agree. Very annoying. Who came up with that idea? I haven't been back there for a couple of weeks now.

Couldn't see it at first until I allowed it in noscript then a follow me popup appeared. Looks quite a limited forum until you join, Smokey?

Nice to notice the nag draw attention and comment, it are exactly the reasons to "nag nag nag" the crowd. :) BTW, the nag only enumerate advantages of registered members. Register and the nag disappear forever. :)

Now a small test especially intended for the nag-haters, let's see what the outcome will be: I appreciate your valued opinion, therefore I have removed the nag. Maybe temporary, maybe forever. Depend on your principles and the real value of them in reality. Lads, I am watching and waiting...:isay: *puppy*

Bellgamin, you are disappointing me, especially from you I expected a matured answer, after all you are the thread starter. Suppose you don't understand my motivation as summarized in my reply? Please reconsider these words: "Depend on your principles and the real value of them in reality".:)

Having witnessed the, IMO, attitude (arrogance) of some of the members of the site displayed here on this site I have no intentions of patronizing the site what so ever. Pop-up or no pop-up.

Strange to choose a method that so resembles one of the things they exist to fight.

No reply is necessary as I have made up my mind, given my injection of .02 and am done with this thread as well as any considerations of patronizing the site.

I'm a bit surprised about all the fuss over the 'nag' screen.
Try accessing the pages over at BC without logging in.... you'll get loads of 'google ads' come up... once you join they disappear.
A lot of sites have a way of restricting non members.
It doesn't cost anything to join..... so why worry.
The 'nag' appears once on each page..... click on it to go away.... and you can read the page in peace.
Seems a lot of fuss over nothing.

I do not see any ads or nag at either BC or Smokeys forums...just use some filtering for the browser and they never appear anyways.
But then I never see ads or nags anywhere else either on the web.

    Here it is (for now).
    Code:
    http://www.smokey-services.eu/forums/Themes/default/scripts/floating-bar-guest.js
This floating bar may scare away especially new visitors.
What a strange popup... can't be a security site...is it scam?! hurry up, leave, leave before drive-by downloads start and rogue malware tries to install. :argh:

You never know just how you look through other people's eyes. :D

    Cheers

    This is all very strange.
If i have a problem with a site.... i complain to the site in question, not to some site that has nothing to do with the problem.
Isn't it time you moaners got a life and dealt with things in a proper way.

Off topic but I don't know where else to put this: In this thread I see the site "BC" mentioned twice, what is that site?

    Thank you,
