eset ss and 64 bit computers

In the near future we are going to be forced to buy 64 bit Puters.
Will Eset SS run on a 64 bit computer?
Looked on this site but could not find anything.

How near in the future are you talking about? 30 years?

As much as the Computer Hardware industry has advanced into the 64 bit realm, the Computer Software industry is in no real big hurry to give up developing and/or supporting 32 bit programs anytime soon, especially when there is little demand for 64 bit programs at present.

Even if were sooner, the benefits would only apply to Operating System speeds, increased memory support and Application speeds. Won't affect Internet performance at all. The Internet will still be 32 bit. It's going to take the enitre Internet infrastructure as a whole, GLOBALLY, at least 30 years to totally update all the current hardware to run 64 bit.

 

With Windows 7 and Office 2010 we will finally be out the stone age as they reckon most will be using 64bit.

 

You're assuming they will release 64 bit versions only. Unless you can prove me otherwise? I don't see why they would beta test a 32bit version and not release it.

Go up on the HP site and browse in the offerings by Hewlett Packard.
All I see is offerings of 64 bit Puters.
I agree that software will take a lot longer.

This time next year for Windows 7 and by 2010 for office I would hope even n00bs buy a PC that's got running a 64bit OS, and the sites in the know point to they will mostly be doing so.

 

I think the main hope will be that all the shops sell the 64bit by default.

 

I'm not seeing that at all. HP has plenty of machines with 32 bit Vista available.

Still, even those machines probably have 64 bit support if you wanted to upgrade that particular system to use a 64 bit OS. All depends on what type of Processor HP has in those systems. If they have the older Itanium based processors then they're strictly 64 bit and can only use 32 bit if the OS supports a 32 bit Emulator which would be a total waste. I don't think there are very many systems, old or new, that have the Itanium based processors.

My main machine has 32/64 bit support. Haven't found a 64 bit OS that I would like to use on a regular basis. I bought Windows XP Pro x64 Edition about a year ago. Wasn't all too happy with the overall turnout of that. Very little support out there for XP Pro x64 Ed right now. Not about to take the leap into the heap of Vista x64 (or the up and coming disaster of Windows 7) just to make better use of my hardware.

 

Most customers I deal with inc friends/family that have bought PC's I have seen are 64bit CPU's with low end Intel Dual Cores or Quad Cores or AMD Triple Cores.

They run 3GB (3x1GB) of Memory so are in Single Channel Mode instead of Dual Channel Mode and have noboard GPU's that steal some of the Sytem Memory.

The price these OEM's charge for an additional El-Cheapo 1GB stick is more than it cost to but a branded 4GB(2x2GB) XMS2 Kit from Corsair.

This at least gives them Dual Channel Mode and lessens the issue of the GPU stealing System Memory, but they will still have a MAX of 3.5GB for Sytem+Dedicated GPU (if fitted).

They all come with Vista Home Prem x86 (32bit).

There is not real reason not to give them 64bit as nearly everything bar really old printers work (you can buy a new one for £15+) and 16bit App's (I'm sure you can find a newer App to do the same).

All Windows 64 OS's support 32bit emulation, its called WOW64 and without it your 32bit App's/Games would not run.

P.S Windows XP-64 is the least supported Windows OS ever, either run XP-32 or Vista 32-64.

Hmm Windows 7 a disaster ?, Some need to get out of the cave and move forward TBH with that outlook we would all still be on Win 3.1 on Single Core CPU's.

 

Forgot to add:

I'll bet there is still millions and millions of new 32/64 bit PC's (Desktop and Laptops) in warehouses that will never be bought up because of them having Vista installed on them.
