TI Home 2009 REMAINING TIME

I purchased Product few days ago and have, what I believe, latest version 9709 and from the bootable media, it indicates, after a short while, a remaining time of "2 seconds" but, it continues and completes the backup process indicating a successful backup. Any ideas as why this remaining time error?

The Acronis programmers all missed the day they taught, "calculating remaining time" in programming school. Every version has been a hit and miss, mostly miss, proposition in the time remaining department.

If it is doing the backup properly just ignore it. Yours seems a little different in that it indicates a short time, usually the time estimates are way too long.

The time which is being displayed on progress bar is just approximate time, because it is impossible to calculate the exact time of the process.

Anyway, please just do not worry about it, if your backup is running fine.

This is a very poor response from Acronis. Seekforever is absolutely right.

The way the old program worked was more accurate at calculating estimated time.

Acronis please put back the old program.

 

I have seen this happen and it has been reported here a few times. The Total Progress bar completes in about 5 or 10 seconds after the process has started, leaving the remaining time stagnant at 2 seconds, while the Current Operation progress bar runs at what seems like normal speed. But you have to guess how long the process is going to take by looking at how fast the Current Operation progress bar moves.

The ironic thing about this is that it didn't happen in the Beta version of 2009.

Thanks for the acknowledgement and other responses. I have been using the Acronis backup software for many years and I am thankful that I am not seeing the usual "2 days, 6hrs" messages I have been used to seeing. The program indicated a successful backup and I hope it was. I usually don't clean my hard just to see if it was successful until I have no choice, as in a complete restore of a drive.

Any ideas when update will be available? Not really that concerned but interested.

The so-called Progress bars in ATI should probably be called Luddite bars -- they're anti-progress.


Any program (espeically one that can accomodate Vista) that presents progress bars makes inaccurate estimates at the start of a task and then quickly increases accuracy as the task completes. If program doens't update the progress bar often enough, it won't seem accurate much of the time and this was part fo the problem with the Dread ATI11 -- it could go through a hour long task and not update the progress bar for the last 59 minutes!

Sometimes, the final operations that close a task will execute before the loop for the final update to the prgress bar and so the final seconds will still show when the task ends -- more often a task shows 0 secs remaining but seems to keep running a short while longer -- this happens when the progress bar is keyed off of the prog's file function calls, which have all been initiated, and the disk write cache hasn't emptied yet -- Nero 9, for example, is good at showing this.

But among all the progs I've seen with progress bars, ATI11 and ATI 12/2009 behave the worst. In a world of good and bad watches, they're $2 swatches. Best workaround, ignore the so-called progress bars in ATI 11 and 12/2009 and use experience (past run times) to estimate for yourself how long a task will take.

 

I just recently upgraded from 11 to 2009 and is amazing how many things that worked in 11 don't work in 2009.

The timer is ATI 11 was not bad and after the backup/restore had progressed for a short period was fairly accurate. The time on ATI 2009 is worthless, shows 2 seconds remaining.

So far I am not that impressed with 2009 over 11.

 

mine got to 13 sec and stopped there. I was surprised that the total bar had so speedily passed out the current bar.

There is no excuse for it. I was able to program something that was 90% accurate as a vb6 newbie back in the day.
