TeamViewer/CrossLoop/LogMeIn question

Can TeamViewer (or CrossLoop) do this?

I gave my All-In-One Printer to my son but his PC's CD-drive isn't working (for whatever reason) so I couldn't install the printer's software.

With the printer's setup CD in my PC's CD-drive, would I be able to use TeamViewer or CrossLoop to install the software onto his PC?

We live in different cities, but we both have a broadband internet connection.

What you could do is create a .iso file of your cd at your place, transfer the .iso file to your son (by any means), and then have your son use virtual cd software such as Daemon Tools to install the virtual cd.

 

Hey MrBrian thanks for the reply, I was beginning to feel ignored.

Not that I have a low opinion of my son's abilities, but I kind of doubt that he's up to using virtual cd software.

But (similar to your suggestion) what's wrong with transfering the exe file to his desktop for him run (or better yet, could I not run it remotely)?

Also, would you recommend CrossLoop or TeamViewer for this?

 

I have both of these in my program collection, but I don't normally use this type of program, so I can't give an opinion on which is better, or their capabilities. I've recently stumbled across Gbridge and Remobo, which maybe are even better for your purposes.

If there is just one .exe, that would work. If not, maybe you could make an archive of the cd contents (maybe self-extracting archive for ease of use), and send your son the archive and have him extract the contents to his hard disk, without needing virtual cd software.

 

There seems to be a sh$t-load of these apps out there. Someone here pm'd me, raving about 'Instant Housecall'.

I think I'll try TeamViewer and see how it goes.

 

Used teamviewer loads of times: really easy to set up on target machine. They just have to run a single exe and give you the ID and password. Used to use logmein for fixing PCs but that involves account setting up. Just use that to connect to my own PC from work now.

 

Your son wouldn't be using it - you would be running it when you access his computer remotely

 

Up and running with TeamViewer (almost effortlessly!) and it seems to do the job quite well. One of these days I might just try CroosLoop and/or Instant Housecall to see if I can notice any operational improvement over TeamViewer.

I've used several of them and I say don't bother looking elsewhere - imho TeamViewer is best of breed.

UltraVNC works nice too. It also has the option for encryption.

 

After establishing connection (very easy) I launched his IE browser, went to HP site and downloaded/ran printer driver.
