I'm holding off from installing smart security till this is fixed.

Any news on when an update will be released?

I've had the same problem. Could someone from ESET please let us know when the fix has been released (possibly via this thread) so that we can re-enable the Thunderbird integration?

I installed V4 yesterday and have had all sorts of problems with starting Thunderbird and even when starting up the laptop (no network connection. 'dead' touchpad, March Database version indicated)

Very dissappointed really - gone back to Version 3.

Please make sure the next release is properly useable.

Same problem starting Tbird on Windows XP SP3. Whew, glad it's a know problem, I thought Tbird was starting to fail. My solution is to:
    1. Try starting Tbird (momentary hourglass icon, but Tbird won't start)
    2. Open Task Manager and kill the process "thunderbird.exe"
    3. Try starting Tbird for a second time. Works 100% of the time.

Yes, this issue is driving me nuts as well.

Also, even when you do check mail, in Vista x64 SP1 with Thunderbird, you need to click on "Check mail" twice before the mail icon disappears off the toolbar. So you need to click "Check mail". Then select all the mail in Thunderbird. Then you need to click "check mail" again just to get rid of the Windows mail notification icon. Simply retrieving mail the first time isn't enough. Very annoying. I suspect Eset SS is the problem.

I'm having the same issue with Thunderbird on Vista and on XP. I didn't know what was going on and thought it was a Vista issue, but once I installed my second ESS license on my netbook (XP), the same thing started happening, so I know it has something to do with ESS.

    Can't wait for that fix!:doubt:

I called support twice today because I just bought the program yesterday and they knew nothing about the thunderbird problem. In fact they told me iwas most likely a conflicting virus program on my computer causing the problem. I tried this to:
It didn't work for me, the only way I could check my email was to uninstall the Eset, open my email and reinstall Eset. I like this program but I don't want to have to leave thunderbird open 24/7 and I will not uninstall and reinstall the program everyday. Anyone out there have a easy solution for someone not very computer techie?

Anyone out there able to help meo_O :gack: :gack: :'(

PS. I have completely removed all remnants of any previously used spyware, antivirus pregrams so I know it isn't that.

My OS is [ XP Home SP3 with TB 2.0.0.21 & ESS 4.0.417]

That is sad. I had assumed ESET was better than that

    Tony49122 solution works for me
Alternatively if you run with administrator privileges you can go to
    ESS
    Setup
    Personal firewall
    Disable filtering: allow all traffic

    Start thunderbird

    Return ESS as above
    Enable filtering.

    Alternatively
Uninstall ESS 4.0.417 and install an older version eg 4.0.314.0 or older
    Alternatively
Install Nod32 and just use the windows firewall or other 3rd party product

    Last alternative
Just wait till they release a fix. For how long, your guess is as good as mine.

Just to let ESET know this is also occuing under WinXP SP2 x64. TB will start but it won't show up. Solution is to kill the application and try to restart it and this process can be done a few times before it actually start.

Disabling the email feature from ESET and TB works like a charm.

    Cheers.

I'm having the same Thunderbird non starting problem with Windows 7 (Build 7077)

Also I have to disable the ESS firewall to allow email access to one of my providers POP3 mail servers (I receive email from two POP3 providers) the other one works OK with the firewall turned on.

I have disabled the Windows 7 firewall.

    Hello all,

I would like to report that the brand new version 4.0.424 completely cures the Thunderbird start problem for me (Windows XP Pro, SP3).

Moreover, the rather annoying popup on shutdown is gone as well

Let me add one more voice. I'm using Windows 2000 on one of my machines. Once I bought and installed ESS 4.0.417.0 Thunderbird began to intermittently fail to start. I tried most of the workarounds listed in this thread and found that regardless of what actions I took, except for leaving Thunderbird running, the problem would recur with no pattern I could discern. Finally, I opened Taskmanager and saw that, in all cases when there was no Thunderbird window evident, there was a Process listed: thunderbird.exe, but no Application related to Thunderbird. What is normally shown as an application is "Inbox for [my wife]". This situation would persist for a long time (I think forever).

What I've done in order to work around the problem is to kill the process. After doing that, starting Thunderbird proceeds normally. I've done this successfully dozens of times now.

At this point version 4.0424 is now out and should correct some of these problem.

    - Preferably a fresh install.
-- It has cured my problems with thunderbird so far.
