I uninstalled NOD32 v2.7 to try Vipre. I didn't notice any real performance improvement, so I reinstalled NOD32.

Now NOD32 won't update. The virus signature database is 2257 (20070511). Windows Security Center is screaming. NOD32 says I'm up-to-date every time I do it manually.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it again, but no joy.

    All reasonable suggestions entertained.

    Thanks.

I believe they no longer support v2.7. Besides, it's time for you to upgrade. I can vouch for v3.0.684 as being rock solid. As long as you have time left on your subscription, and you have your key you can upgrade at the download for paid customers site. :)

With all due respect, I don't want to upgrade. If I'm forced to upgrade before ESET improves the system performance (because I did try the newer versions, and I was not happy), I'll find a new antivirus program instead.

It is untrue that ESET no longer supports v2.7, and, in fact, I installed from a newly downloaded file from its site. Moreover, I was getting regular updates up until 3 days ago when I installed Vipre.

With all that said, between the time I posted and the receipt of your reply (being the obsessive-compulsive about this sort of thing that I am), I uninstalled again, and this time, I remembered to delete the ESET folder after the uninstall.

All is well. Thank you for your input.

Sorry, v2.7 is no longer developed but is fully supported
Same - v3 and v4 both worked excellently here. v4 actually represents a significant technological step up from v2.7 and for most the only reson not to go with v4 would be because they were running a Windows 9x system.
It sounds like there may bo something left over from Vipre that needs to be found and cleaned out perhaps? - regardless of if v3 or v4 update correctly it would be worth checking out.

    HTH

    Cheers :)

    Windows XP Professional SP3.

But the laptop isn't very speedy, and that makes a big difference in performance between the version I'm using and the newest version.

The laptop meets my needs and I have no good reason to buy a new one right now (except, perhaps, just because it would be fun), so buying a new one just to accomodate an antivirus program makes no sense.

If you hadn't posted, I'd not have fixed the mistake I made. It should've been the "ESET folder" not the "ESET file."

If someone else has the problem, I wouldn't want them to suffer trying to figure out what I meant.

I have the v 2.7 evaluation version. Can't update! Have uninstalled, reinstalled. Is the evaluation version not supported?

The v2 trial version was discontinued last year. The v4 trial version can be downloaded from here.
