nod 32 v4.0.217 and Cisco vpn combined with vista x64

Have a client who has windows vista x64 and uses the cisco any connect vpn client which pretty much is SSL based.

Latency when using vpn connected is 500 to 1500 ms, if we uninstall nod 32 then latency is back to 10-20 ms even without a reboot.

Have excluded the vpn client thru personal firewall->rule setup-> internet browsers and a general exclusion of C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client\vpnagent.exe

Any ideas?

If you disable just the firewall in ESET Smart Security does that resolve the issue?

If not, apply the following to see if that works.


- Open the ESET Smart Security, then push F5(Advanced Setup Tree)
– Go to ‘Web access protection’ > ‘HTTP,HTTPS’> ‘Web browsers’.
– Uncheck all
– Go to ‘Protocol filtering’ on the left
– Select ‘Applications marked as Internet browsers and e-mail clients’ then push OK.

 

We don't have smart security only antivirus business edition, so it's the firewall option that is available there that may cause the problem.

I think we already tried to exclude the vpnagent and the rest includning the folder it resides in for scanning, and also if we would disable the personal firewall completley we would lose the http scanning feature which is one thing that actually prevents attacks and infections the most at least in our case.

Experinced the same slow VPN connection (and frequent disconnects) using Cisco VPN Client (v5.0.00.0340) with NOD32 AV v4.0.417 on Vista Home Premium (32 bit).

Rolled back to NOD32 v3 and problem is gone.

 

I use Vista x64 and Cisco AnyConnect without any problems, but i had to completely disable https/ssl scanning to make it work properly. Take a look at this post (url below) to make sure you disable https/ssl scanning completely. http scanning will still be enabled since this is just for SSL.

There are some known problems with the ssl scanning and i have not found any other way to make it work properly so had to disable this feature. A couple of the issues i had is Cisco AnyConnect and Outlook anywhere which both use SSL. Also a website i use didn't work properly with SSL scanning enabled. So if problems i would suggest to not use this feature until fixed. Hopefully Eset will solve these problems soon.

 

I believe that might be another problem since the Cisco Client 5.0.00.0340 use IPSec and not SSL and a completely different client. Also the Cisco IPSec VPN client is not and will never be supported under a 64 bit OS.

 

True and for what we know the "fat" cisco vpn client is end of life and will probably not be developed anymore from what information we got from cisco will cisco's anyconnect client replace it.

However I will try to disable the ssl scanning completeley as instructed but I feel that this is something ESET should have done before even releasing the business edition, maybe it's me but it doesn't feel company or corporate behaviour ?

Yes i understand what you said, but i'm just saying because it's most likely not relevant for the topic of this thread since it's another OS and another client. I replied based on the info from the topic starter which is about Vista x64 and SSL VPN and the old Cisco VPN client use IPSec and is not supported on the platform related to the problem in this thread.

 

I agree it should have been fixed before release since the first reports about the SSL issues where reported during the public beta testing. Hopefully it will be fixed pretty soon. Let us know if you manage to get it working with SSL scanning disabled.
