Looks like the scanner is still called 'Luke Filewalker'. No biggie but I thought they were going to change this ages ago. Its a bit immature.

i suppose u can say its a bit immature, but why does everything have to be so serious? i find it refreshing to see the guys at Avira have at least some sense of humor :D

Has anyone got an Access Denied when changing the Avira AntiVir Guard service from Automatic to Manual? I did this in v8 to stop the real-time scanner from starting up but no longer works in v9 as access to the service is restricted.

Also should avnotify.exe be running? It's using up 24mb of memory and 18mb of VM but haven't got a nag screen yet since installing v9 last night.

I think I heard someone say you gotta boot into safe mode to change the service. I have not tried it myself though.....

Have you tried turning off avira's self-protection before setting the services manually?

Doesn't work, but then again this is probably a security measure, read up somewhere about the conficker virus disabling services, but it wouldn't be able to touch Avira's. :)

Avira v9 seems to be preventing my desk top icons and taskbar from loading, sometimes I have to restart 3 times before it loads. I push the re set button as I don't have access to my taskbar.

Me too. What I mean is Avira can't scan inside 7z archives yet.

Hmm, it should be possible to access the service settings when the self-protection is disabled. This might be a bug. However, it does not make sense to set the Guard service to manual loading. If you want to permanently disable the Guard, please use the Avira setup (not the configuration).

Is it just me or there is no Self-Protection on Vista x64 ?
Netbook with WinXP does have that option, but on my main system with Vista x64, there is no self-protection option. Haven't tested though, but it seems there is none.

Hi there everybody. I would like to ask one simple question. After scanning for example the whole computer in the report file I see "Deviating risk categories...........: +APPL,+GAME,+JOKE,+PCK,+SPR,
", whereas I marked all risk categories. Does it mean, that AntiVir does not scan for example for Adware/Spyware or it is not written in the report file? Thanks in advance.

no antivir has a standard setting which is used for the scan. everything wich is listed behind this entry in the logfile differs from the deault settings. + means that additionally to the default settings antivir is also searching for these categories. and waht - means you can guess yourself ;)
