Freeware/Payware Partition Managers

I tried to find a nice thread at Wilders that shows a list of freeware and/or payware Hard Drive Partition Managers. I did not find one. What are some good payware and freeware Hard Drive Partition Managers?

Some like Ranish. Free I think. Personally I liked partition magic 8. I still use it. Don't know what new versions are like, but that one does everything but slice your bread.

Here is the dwonload page for all of paragon's "Express" (free) versions, including Partition Manager Express. They are a very reputable company, and although their express versions lack some features of the full versions, they work reliably.

Version 8.5 is not current. HDM is now 2009

But waht do we expect for free ?

 

I strongly believe that GParted is the best free offering available right now.

 

I also think Gparted is the best option.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

I have limited experience with GParted. One time I did a "zero" write to all of a 120 GB SATA1 hard drive. I then booted with the GParted bootable CD but it did not recognize the hard drive. I then booted with Puppy Linux and the Gparted in Puppy Linux recognized the hard drive and then I was able to easily partition and format the drive. I have always wondered why the GParted bootable CD did not recognize the hard drive. Any comments?

I think the driver support is limited with their bootable CD. I've always found the GParted in Ultimate Boot CD to work well.

 

BING! is da bomb !

 

I had forgotten about purchasing the complete package from Terabyteunlimited last November. I tried it out on my 'Test' computer which has Windows 7 Beta installed on it. It had the two partitions made by the Windows 7 installation (~40 GB total) and ~200 GB partition (240 GB hard drive, unformatted size). I resized the ~200 GB partition (which contained one file ~4.5 GB) to ~100 GB and created a ~100 GB partition (ntfs) with the remaining space. Everything seemed to be easy.

One Question: I noticed in Huffy's tutorial videos for BING that Windows does not recognize(?) the ntfs format created by BING, thus requiring formatting again in Windows. I "also" found that I had to format to ntfs with Windows because it showed the newly created partition as RAW. What causes Windows not to recognize the ntfs format created by BING?

"There is just one limitation with BiNG that has been a minor irritating and that is that it cannot format NTFS partitions. Surprising since it can non-destructively resize them. It can "create" NTFS labelled partitions but they will be "raw" when later seen by an Operating System.

 

There are several NTFS versions. Win NT, Win 2000 and Win XP each use a different NTFS version. I'm not sure about Vista.

I think it's a licensing issue : NTFS format is not free, and since there is little use in formatting from BING, since you are going to reboot a system that does understand NTFS, I think the developer didn't include it. And I am sure he has more than the knowledge to do it !
