is this sign of infection?

my friends avi files are turned into jpg. so i tried to scan that hdd by connecting to my system.kaspersky cought some malware,but my avi files are also turned into jpg now.and kaspersky is not showing any sign of infection.
is it really infected? any cure ?

Well, if your antivirus has removed the virus, you are no more affected. But the problem is you need to undo the effect the virus has caused into your system.

You will need to rename the file extensions as all such media extensions are now renamed. Only extensions need to be renamed and there has been no infections to your format.

Use Extension renamer software and that will help you.

If you want, you may refer to complete solution of mediacontrol virus, that helps you for sure...

 

Well, for your information, I was infected by the same and hence am confident about the solution I am giving you, I hope this helps other forum members who have the same problem

 

I'm curious....where were the media files being kept on the system that was infected?

 

Still curious for those who had this happen to them...where did you have your affected files stored? (Directory structure.)

 

whereever you keep them, it gets changed automatically. The virus runs as a background process and makes its effect all over the system.
