Windows 7 Free Av recommendation?

What free AV's support Win7 or don't explicitly support it but works without issue?

 

Avira, Norton, Kaspersky, Comodo all work fine.

Can't say about the rest those are the 4 I've tried so far.

 

Norton and Kaspersky aren't free (apart from the trial).

Good to hear Avira works well but, I had an issue with it on Vista where the scheduler would use up to 20% of cpu at random times for no reason. Wasn't an updated because it would run for way too long.

 

From the looks of it AVG seems to support Windows 7 as well as their website says so.

 

How about Avast, anyone use it on Win7 yet?

Give it a shot; most software does in fact work on Windows 7. Check the right click context menu and choose compatibility mode. You will need administrative permissions and say the program won't run in this version however it did in eariler versions of Windows. Choose Vista, or XP. Proceed with installation, and it should work.

I had the Windows 7 beta installed for a while and AVG 8.5 Free definitely works.

 

Avast does work good with Windows 7.

Using "compatibility mode", when installing low-level programs like antiviruses... is asking for problems; certainly not a good idea.

And yes, avast! works fine on Win7 (though as with other antiviruses, you may get the famous tdx.sys bluescreens - which is actually a bug in the public versions of Windows 7, fixed in later builds).
