    Sandboxie all the way!

If AV only users could see all the upload malware reports I've sent to Virus Total you would be having second thoughts on your security setup.

The 123.exe malware sample below drops quite a few other exes where detections by AV companies are very low on all of them ATM.

Well, I must say that beats my vote of FD-ISR in the sense that, if it gets down to bare metal, I always start from an IFW image of up-to-date WinXP + FD-ISR.:)

No probs jmonge, I need to use a Testings sandbox at default settings for malware samples to run as my default sandbox is way too secure in that only allowed apps can run/connect to the net.

Absolutely brilliant security app is my Sandboxie.

Respect :thumb: , from someone trying out GesWall and DefenseWall, to someone creating a security setup with user rights, software restriction and (file and registry?) access control list.

I have to agree with nanana, lucy prooves it: the person configuring security (helas also the weakest chain at the same time, otherwise there would not be a need for security aps :p )

    Cheers

I believe we can agree that if at the end the weakest link is the user, the OS gives the level of weakness. Linux, Unix... are not necessarily safer by design. They are safer because a by default security policy is set up, thus giving a by default security level much higher than windows.

And I am always pretty amazed to see people installing up to 5, 10 security programs on an administrator account, when actually, a simple user account would take care of the first 80% of threats. And let's face it, except in case you are a heavy programmer, you don't need admin account, and UAC can handle the few cases you need admin credentials for a given operation.

If any of the people above using their "best single security apps" are under admin account, they do a mistake (or should I say they take a greater risk than the risk decrease brought by their security app.

FD-ISR can be your best security app if you use it as one. Assuming you have a few snapshots in it, and you get hit in your primary snapshot. As long as you can reboot to the FD-ISR logo, you can boot to another snapshot. Then depending what the problem was, you can update the primary and the problem never happened.

Nothing beats policy management. GeSWall and DefenseWall implement this in an even more secure way (focussed on Internet facing aps) for the XP Home or Vista Home users.

Current three security aps I use less than 4 secs CPU time and read less than 100MB (combined in total) when using the PC for hours straight.
