You should not have to tweak anything so that the firewall works in basic mode and internet use is not slowed down by a large degree. It should work straight out of the box for basic users, end of story no matter what analogy you care to use.

And still the silence from ESET and the moderators is deafening !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not helping them, but others in this board. That's actually the sense behind a board. Others a free to e-mail / call eset directly.
And if it's working for you... uhm where's the problem theno_O? :)

And actually, there's free lunch somewhere in this world. Just not that luxury that modern civilisation is used to but there are people that get with much less along that others are not used to.

Not working =/= not working. It's working for some including you.o_O

    ACK on nothing personal though:thumb:

Yes, it's working for me and I did my best to help other users to make it work for them as well: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=236335

I don't approve defending ESET, saying it's users fault (or their lack of knowledge) for firewall cutting off their connection, as many people don't want to "bother" with forums, they want out-of-the-box working product.

I don't defend them either, just don't blame them entirely. It's a half full / empty glass view.

Agreed, it should work out of the box. It is not the end users responsibility to have to make it work. It is also not ok to say another company's product is also broken so it is ok it doesn't work because it is too hard to put out a working product. The companies that survive are going to be the ones that make the customers happy, not the ones that blame the customers for the problems. Again, I am not claiming ESET is doing that, but a lot of the attitude on here implies the problem lies with the customer. The average customer that tries this product and has a problem will try another product until they find one that works. And they will not come back. Especially if they are told that they are too inept to use this product. It just need to be fixed, by whatever effort is required, while anyone still cares.

Very true indeed. I wonder how long it will take them to realise the bad PR this is causing them, particularly their silence on the matter.

Very very true :). Otherwise, people may find rejoice in other solutions and never look back. I'm really hard core for NOD32 (using it since v2.7) but never ever had problems before. For me it was simple "fire and forget", as it should be in a first place I believe. If one need to mess around with settings hoping it will eventually work (or not), one might look elsewhere...

Just to drop my thoughts ...
It would be foolish meaning ESET doesn't care for their customers. They obviously spent huge resources to launch v4 and they will naturally strive to refund them as soonest, indeed. I rather tend to think they have a problem to replicate all the reported problems. I see that in this way ... an ordinary user that uses v4 successfully never seeks a help on a forum. He simply uses it and most even forget in a while he has installed it. Searching a help are those having a problem or those being more interested in a product from whatever reasons. I would bet that those complaining here present only a tiny slice of all Eset's users. Of course that it doesn't mean they should be put aside but it could be explanation and maybe justification for such a long period to fix problems.

How many more people have experienced the problems and just walked away, trial period or purchased users.

It is a common phenomenon during testing of software products to accept problems that effect say less than 5% of customers/licenses as par for the course and forget about them.

If that is their attitude to this common problem then they should say so and I can move on to another product and never look at ESET again, which I might add is getting very close

This is usually what I do. Just quietly walk away and never come back. I hope nobody is disregarding that group, even though they are impossible to identify. I only post issues for products I have liked enough to pay for to begin with. There are many other products I have tested that failed my testing and I never made any effort to contact anyone. I just moved on to the next one.The people complaining are not just a vocal minority. They may represent a huge group of people that just can't be bothered to spend their time finding their way here to complain because they don't have time or don't want to be told they are somehow the cause of their own problems.

I could not agree more. I am rather annoyed that a good product has been allowed to sink to the depths it has, and the company appear to be burying their head in the sand hoping it will die down and people will move onto something else or buy a competitors product and leave them in peace.
