The version of my program is also now in English. In February they changed some of their rules and now they don't ask for personal information (email address, etc). In Their website they didn't give any notice about this chenge from German to English.

when you update ewido security suite, the chosen language is the default language of your windows

to change the language (2 ways possible):

*) download a new setup and choose the language you want
*) create the file "lang.ini" with the content

    Code:
    [language]
    lang=german

    or
    Code:
    [language]
    lang=english

    See this link http://www.rokop-security.de/main/article.php?sid=672

    It seems too optimistic.

I can't read German. LOL I'm going to have to use Google or something to translate what it says.

The gist of the issue is that ewido is a secure AT. They says the program
    passed their test.
But they don't say how the test was.

Have you tried it? Do you like it? My brother in law came to his senses and wants a free AT and the only one I knew of was a2 now this one comes out and I wouldn't mind seeing if anyone used Ewido and if it's worth the free download.

When you'll have examined this program, you might begin a thread.

IMHO ewido securty suite (ESS) is a promising product that you may already use as a free backup scanner. We have not performed an in-depth review yet. However, we have already "played" with ESS ( using the following test archive: http://home.arcor.de/scheinsicherheit/procedure2.htm ). My first impression is as follows:

Overall, the detection rate of Kaspersky AntiVirus (one of the best scanners) is higher. Ewido still needs to add more signatures. However, ESS comes into play when KAV misses a trojan. For example because:

    - the trojan is packed with UPX and the unpacking stub was modified (ESS uses an emulation and is generally not affected by simple OEP modifications).

    - the trojan was patched (contrary to KAV, the ESS signature database has not been cracked and it seems that ESS indeed uses high-quality signatures).

Apart from the relatively small signature database we have discovered one weakness so far: "rebasing". But this flaw can be relatively easily fixed and I guess that this will be the case (sooner or later).

    fixed! :)

btw. the ewido security suite is now (as far as we know) the first scanner being capable of detecting any rebased file

Well, as soon as i heard of it (where do you find information of that kind other then on... Wilders!! :D) i installed and tested it. But then a weird thing happened: it came up with one infected file:

    "C:\Program Files\Norton Systemworks\Norton Utilities\NUSPLASH.dll"

The strange thing is that none of my other programs (TDS-3, Trojan Remover, BoClean, ...) found this. Neither did Kaspersky or Housecall Online Scan.
But of course this means nothing, it is always possible Ewido is the first to detect this infection.

To be on the save side, i send an e-mail to Ewido asking them to confirm this isn't a false positive.

[5 minutes later] Seems like the support is terrific :): they already replied and said that this is indeed a false positive.

For anyone NOT running 2000 or XP, the a2 scanner seems work alright ... at least on THIS 98SE machine!

If the ESS scanner (Ewido) is better, though, is there any way it can be made to run on the older OSes?

sorry, but there's no way... the ewido security suite relies on many technologies first introduced in windows 2000.

Well, I was going to try Eiwdo AT, but, I'm left out, since I use Win98SE, guess I'll just stick with my a2 free ;) (Since Andreas was kind enough to recognize not EVERYONE who has security needs uses up-to-date Operating Systems)

    Hi guys,

    Have a look over here:

    www.bugnosis.org

You can download for free this one, also for W98
See what happens when you install this nice one.

    Gerald that's not a anti-trojan software.
