I used two versions of the Beta V4 ESS with no problems. When the public version was released, I downloaded it with expectations. The major problem is that every time the computer starts up, I cannot connect to the internet with ESS4, unless I reboot, and sometimes that does not work. I read about disabling the "Internet Browser" check box under the "Web Access Protection" and "Web Browsers" in the firewall advanced setup tree. I tried this which seemed to work -majority of the time- and then re-enabled the same. The firewall worked fine thereafter, until I shut down and rebooted later. I would then have to do this whole process over or the internet timed out or the error box stating website not found would appear.

Is this problem soon to be repaired? Because this is pure craziness to put up with. Thank you.

    Hello Conan,

Why don't you give those that may help you some information on your current operating system and any other security programs you use or have used in the past.

    conan,
you are not the only user with that problem, have a look at he threads and you will see, there is no apparent fix that we can carry out, its a job for ESET.

It's interesting that not even ONE post from ESET is published to this problem.

I wouldn't mind having problems with a new version.. but THIS problem was already reported in Beta 1 and in RC as well.

And its just cheek from eset to publish a final version like that.

    Microsoft philosophy ?

I had this problem when I first installed ess 4 without uninstalling 3 first.
My computer would connect to the wireless router with a strange ip but won't connect to the internet.
Once I disabled the firewall, everything would be fine again.
So I decided to do a clean installation. It's working great so far.
You should try it if you haven't done so. Although you were using ess 4 beta before, a clean installation should help too.

A fresh install of ver4 on Vista after fully uninstalling ver3 produces the same problems

Do you think its worth waiting for a fix or just go back to Version 3 and monitor this forum like a hawk for any news?

That's a decission you have to make.
It depends on how important a correct working firewall is for you.

Since Eset didnt fix this problem in Beta and neither in RC... oh well... we will see.

The OS system I am using is XP Home and have use the recent Norton IS 2009 and KIS 2009. KIS2009 used too much resources and seemed to complex for daily use-the firewall was somewhat confusing to use and the popup ad software with it, did not seem to work very well. NIS2009 worked ok, but used some resources, but not as much as KIS2009. It was much better than past editions of NIS.

I do not recall the ESS beta that I used, but it was used for the last 5 mo. I also used the final draft prior to the final edition being released for use. As I said, the beta and final draft worked fine, I did not have the web browsing problems that I now have.

I did do a clean install on the ESS4 after fully removing the ESS3 and prior beta's.

I did a clean install and get the firewall problem.

what I have done now is to install the NOD AV and my Outpost firewall and I will stick with this combination, if ESET cant be bothered to fix the problem then thats their problem.

    I'm system is working well.

Had the same problem, had to disable firewall, disconnect/re-connect network and than re-enable firewall. Real pain in the a$$. At the end, I have reinstalled ESS v4, so far works ok. Never had such issues with v3 though.

    Cheers,
    Miki

Doesn't work here, but haven't reinstalled. So now I have disabled "Block unsafe address after attack detection" in IDS, which seems to be working for someone else.

    ** Update **

No good, disabled everything in IDS.

Here I am using Vista 32 Bit Ulrimate facing problems with firewall in ESS v4.0and that
my LAN PC's sometime disconnected from each other.I have 4 PC's linked as
a LAN never faced problems with ESS v3.0.I can not print with shared printer
some times PC 1 sees all PC,s and sudennly it is disconnected from LAN
I did all what comes here :
    http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2141&actp=LIST_RECENT
but nothing changed.I created rules for TCP & UDP in both directions and never solved this issue. When check the log it says that port scan attack detected from PC on my LAN and disconnected it.I tried every thing I found on this forum nothing changed BUT disabling firewall solves this and rolling back to v 3.0 also solved this issue.I hope ESS v4.0 firewall will be like that in v3.0...finally I rolled back to ESS v3.0
