All you have to do is go to start>program>set program access and defaults and select the default mail and browser.

One would think so, but not the case. Default browser set, program accesses set. Still, links do not open from ZA nor from Outlook. I restored a backup.

Thanks very much Arup it now works but it still takes a long time to say it finished loading the page, ( I didn't wait) I tried it again and simply put in my password and login name while Opera still says "setting up secure connection" and I was in. A little while later I got a pop-up window that I had to approve this site and now it finishes the secure connection quickly. ( I should have waited for the pop-up window I guess) I agree wholeheartly with you about Opera being among the safest browser for doing online stuff and that is why I was hoping for a fix.
Your help is much appreciated and I can now do my online banking feeling safe!

You are most welcome. You will see that Opera will keep growing on you and like myself, I am now totally dependant on Opera.

Dang, this v9.64 is fast !

I'm seriously considering of kissing that ever slow loading and browsing Firefox with all it's add-on's goodbye. I don't think I'll miss much besides the AdBlockPlus add-on.

A bit cumbersome but works as good as adblock. Most of the other add ons are there in Opera or can be incorporated via user js or widgets. Do check out Opera forum for all the features you need to use.

Just installed it here tonight, it really is very fast and smooth. I always like the scrolling and mouse gestures in Opera too, very nice. Going to use this as default now. :thumb:

Hm... Opera 9.64 seems to be a little buggy. If I go to rtl.de and try to navigate the CPU is going over 60% and Opera is freezing. I can´t close Opera so I have to shutdown it with taskmanager. It´s maybe a script-thingie - not a big problem. This site is not important but the fault exists...

No such issues here.........check your plugin folder for dual entries of adobe flash, also make sure you are using latest Java.

    Thanks Arup,

but did you try to open a sub-category? The mainpage is loading very, very fast with Opera, but if I do click any sub the browser is freezing.

I have Adobe Flash (10.0.22.87) only in my plugin folder. Java is not installed on this Ultimate64 - I didn´t and don´t need it.

Similar flashy sites works very well. I haven´t a clue what the problem is...

I'm using the Opera 10 alpha since the beginning and it works better than v.9.x for me... :)

Much more faster, and Google websites works also better...

Yep, went through quite a few pages, I had no hitches so far. I do have x64 Java installed.

Things are not going well for Firefox indeed.

TBH, the only reason I'm using Firefox right now on Linux is because it came bundled, and it's just un-crappy enough, unlike IE7, to put me off the hassle of downloading Opera (which remains my browser of choice on Vista).

If you are on x64 Ubuntu, then the x64 Opera is even faster than the x32 Opera on Windows.

I was one of the very first to use OPERA at a time when Firefox was the all the rave. It was good then, and even better now. I used it as an alternative browser at times when IE was just plain boring to a point for me.

This is a milestone of sorts in that OPERA (like FF) have continued their respective browsers to make them the best they could be.

IMHO IE 8, 9 , 10, etc. will never catch up to them no matter what they try to do to improve it but oddly enough for some, i still use IE 90% of the time because it can be protected and useful in so many ways in spite of it's shakey reputation over the run of the many Windows platforms.

With a good AV like Avira or Avast, under LUA with system wide DEP on, IE 7 is quite safe, if you use the x64 version thats one layer safer.

The problem is lack of x64 Flash and Java, latest Java update 12 solves that, now all we need is Flash x64 like we have in Linux. Otherwise x64 IE is very quick specially with multiple pages open.

IE 5 & 6 were the hallmark of browsers untill Mozilla stepped up and offered a much better alternative. They have kept the pressure on IE that remains to this very day.

Funny thing that OPERA was not really in that contest in spite that many users preferred it over even FF. That was me. FF wasn't up to my own personal expectations at the time whereas OPERA had everything needed for security and quick page rendering as well as isolated from Windows.

I think the real contest pits only two viable browsers given IE still suffers ills that frustrate users, and thats OPERA & FIREFOX.

I would keep a close eye on them both, because they too have some competition now with IRON, CHROME, K-Melon, and others that escape me ATM.
