uninstall procedures - still a long way off

Acronis True Image 2009.
Vista 32/64Bit, SP1 system

I have to uninstall Ac2009 simply because i need to arrange
my HD partitions. The Hidden partition is stopping me from
doing this until the hidden partition is deleted.
Vista allows 3 primary partitions and the 4th will be made
into an extended partition for holding logical drives.
Problem is that because vista "sees" the hidden partition
Vista says that I have the max partitions already and
stops. So i cannot get an extended partition until i lose
the hidden one.

Now - a long time ago (Years) there were complaints
about the complexity of the uninstall procedure.

Its still complex.... No where near a fully "automated"
uninstall program, as far as I can see.
The 2009 uninstall procedure still has people going into
the windows registry and making deletes/changes.
I can just see those people faces when they next re-boot.
I have been working with computers and PC's for
over 40 years (retired) and i still get nervous messing with
the registry.

I like the AcronisTI very much (altho i could do without
some of the extras that have creeped in.

Whats the status of a good uninstall program anyway?

Come on Acronis, time for a fully automated uninstall
program...

If you made a so-called Secure Zone and that's the hidden partition you want to remove, do that with ATI before you uninstall it or the partitrion will be left behind to annoy you no end.

Btw, you can use ATI (some would even argue you can use it more securely) without creating a Secure Zone at all. so maybe all you need is to remove the SZ.

 

you can deactivate it, but cannot recover the partition. it remains unallocated.

 

Easiest way to remove a Secure Zone, if you created on is to use ATI. If you didn't remive it before unistalling ATI or ATI is mucking up, then you could use a partiton manager to grab back what ATI has put assunder. You could probably manage fine with a free partition manager like Gparted, which you can google for a copy.

I'm probably going to be uninstalling ATI home 2009 shortly.
I don't think I trust the clean up utility any more than I trust ATI itself.

Can I use the normal ATI uninstaller plus 'Revo uninstaller', to make sure I get rid of it all,
or will that cause problems when the system is rebooted for the ATI helper/driver uninstallation?

 

As Sheiber said, you need to remove the Secure Zone first, otherwise unless you have DD10 or have made a rescue CD the hidden partition will come back to bite you.

You can recover the SZ partition and add it back to an exisiting drive, in fact the SZ deletion should automatically ask you where you want the free space to go.

The cleanup utility mentioned above, is for removing all references in registry of the product.

Yes, but I trust Revo. I don't trust Acronis.
Here is typically what happens with a revo uninstall:

1) The normal uninstaller runs (in this case the acronis one)
2) The acronis installer will ask to reboot so it can remove the drivers.
3) At this point you say no.
4) Revo carries on and removes a shed load of more stuff from the registry & disk that the other uninstaller left behind
5) Then you reboot so the drivers are removed.

My question is, will steps 3 & 4 confuse the acronis uninstaller so that it wrecks the Vista install when it tries to remove the drivers? I've never used Revo on software that apparently embeds itself so deep into a system, so I'm being a bit cautious.

 

I've never used Revo so can't comment. I would point out though that this version of the Acronis CleanUp utility, actually runs a script for Microsoft uninstall products - so the actual uninstalling is done by MS devcon and MSIZAP .
