You're right. I tried Internet Explorer 8 for 2 days and I've got the same issue as I had in Firefox. I did not notice any issues with my mail client Outlook.

The List KEEPS GROWING--- Now (9) users: S4U, 4L3X, killua24, Cosmo26, cupez80, mrjones71, and now Jenee,TBR, & Diprivan are all reporting random but consistent Time-outs with V4-RC -- some with Total Internet Access Failure - and my Feb 18 and another post-er's Online Support Form Request remain unanswered (small staff for the world is tough, I know.)---

Today, DISABLING the FIREWALL (W/ Maintain Inactive TCP Connections chk'd) produces No Time-Outs---(note: I just timed out on a PGA Golf link WITH FW DISABLED, had 4 more failures, and since then it's opening sites......)

Is there any other Help source we can go to as it appears there won't be a solution via ESET ?

"Maintain Inactive TCP Connection" hasn't help us and "maybe a software conflict is the cause" for All 9 of Us is a Big Mountain to guess at.

I have the same problem with lost internet connections on two different PCs both with different hardware. Happens with both Firefox and IE7. I think it is related to version 4 somehow. I even purchased a new modem/router in case it had a problem but it did not make any difference.

Its why i came here, i was looking for a solution.

Out of curiosity, im using the x64 version, what about everyone else with this issue?

Add me in as well. I had problems with Open DNS and ARP spoofing attacks. This was solved by disabling the ARP attack detection option. Also experienced time outs and dropped connections (I also had dropped connections with version 3). Using Win XP Pro SP3 with Firefox and Defensewall.

Did everyone that is having this issue install v4 over v3 by any chance?

If the fix really is as simple as deleting all rules, it might be just a case of uninstall, follow the eset instructions to completely cleanup/remove all settings, then install again when upgrading from v3 > v4, at least that's what I did, and maybe why I'm not having problems.

Thanks for replying, could you try uninstalling again, following that link and installing? I'd like to know if the problem is still there.

Elapsed, Thank you very much for trying to help! I had followed ESET Uninstall link instructions on ALL my previous Uninstalls (Start/Programs/ESET/Uninstall --- Explorer/Regedit Deletes) BUT

    -- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current\Version\Run\egui ---

DID NOT exist. (actually it's CurrentVersion, not Current\Version)

After Re-Install Re-Boot I FAILED to access Home Page and this Forum ---- DISABLED the FW and Failed 4 More typical Bookmarks before a Link Loaded. Then OK thru several links including this post..

FW Disabled is Much Better than Enabled.

So if I understand you correctly it didn't fix the problem for you?

Ignore that, because the guide assumes a failed uninstall it assumes that will be there, a successful uninstall removes that for you.

Yesterday I ticked the box to Maintain Inactive TCP Connections and so far, I have not had the problem of dropped connections. It may be a bit to soon to tell but in the past, it happened daily and frequently.

Just removed Eset Smart security completely (Registry entries and directories) and reinstalled it again. Still having timeouts in my webbrowsers. So I'll turn the firewall off again and hope that this will be fixed in the next release. Meanwhile I'm going to do some testing in a virtual machine. The machine having this issue runs Vista 32 bit. One of my other systems, a Vista 64 bit computer did not have any timeouts in the webbrowsers, but here I got lots of disconnects and protocol errors with Multiplicity. (an application to control other systems with one keyboard and mouse)

Following last night's Re-install per elapsed post/ESET Uninstall Link I have been streaky this a.m.. Several loads, then going down the line of 13 Bookmarks in my Toolbar I saw Load-Fail-Load-Fail (4 sets), 3 loads, 2 Fails, 4 loads, 3 Fails and then this post. Prior I'd experience 5-20 fails before it would start working again, so the Recovery to "Load" is shorter now. (IDS) Maintain Inactive Connection was Not Chk'd for first 70% of those but is now.

I've followed the ESET Uninstall list each time EXCEPT for the INFCACHE.1 Delete -- maybe that's helped some with Loading recovery from failures. (EDIT: Hit a bad Link on PGATOUR.com and then had a string of 9 straight Time-outs...Messed around in Advanced Setup and then the next attempt at THIS FORUM loaded.

V4 Speed is Great and I hope we get a solution to this. I've been on Automatic FW all along.

Day 2 Bootup after Re-Install per ESET:: I had Outlook Receive Error, 14 Time-outs, (6) consecutive Time-outs WITH FW DISABLED and THEN pages Loaded. Has Loaded Well with FW "OFF" since Bootup Time-outs. Edit: Since then Windows Blue Screen Auto-Shutdown and Re-Boot, then surfed OK inside Bank site, LogOff Timed-Out, Firewall Disabled, (9) Consecutive Time-outs til this post. Later this afternoon it is Opening All sites...Hard to figure the unpredictability of Load vs. Time-Outs.

Another Support Request sent with All Internal Data boxes checked and This Thread / (9) Users referenced ---- This is "Officially" No Fun!

Id agree and say its no fun whatsoever and its even more frustrating when eset cant even send a simple email back to you to confirm that they are looking at the support ticket you raised with them.

This is a real pain in the a$$ and when you are browsing more secure sites like banks and webservers, these sometimes mistake these timeouts as attacks and you end up with your ip address blacklisted until you email them and tell them its a problem with the software you are using.

Ive sorted my problems by removing ESS V4 and installed NOD32 V4 with comodo firewall, as i really dont hold out much chance of this problem being resolved in the near future. And im not going to continue to have my ip address blacklisted by my bank because of software.

After Downloading the Final V4 I realized Control Panel Add-Delete was the 1st method of choice for V4-RC Removal vs. the Start/Programs/Eset I had used successfully for my 6 Uninstalls of V4 Beta/RC....

That led to a Blue Screen Auto-Shutdown (2nd of day), No Luck in Safe Mode via Start/Programs (said ESET wasn't there although Boot Screen kept popping up), Not Communicating with ekrn.exe followed and Had I not saved the Thread below 1 Year Ago about ekrn.exe Uninstall Problems I'd be cooked Well Done.

I followed The Nodder's instructions and got out of the mess. THANK YOU, NODDER!!! I Sprinted, Not Ran or Walked, Back to V3.

Short of wiping the entire system, I'm not sure what else to recommend. :( You're using the latest router firmware and latest NIC drivers?

I've installed the final ESS v4 hoping that the firewall was fixed, the problem is still there and there was no improvement(my internet connection is totally blocked)... For the mean time I've completely disabled the firewall and my internet connection is back to normal again...

elapsed, thanks for the follow-up. I'm desktop/latest AT&T DSL Modem software and aside from regular Windows Update and the HP Software Update page for my model, I'm not familiar with determining if any Driver is out-of-date otherwise. Presume I'm up-to-date on all.

Paid thru 10-15-10 so I'll have to decide on V4 AV Only or V3 ESS.......Thanks again!

Yes, I'm using a NIC and a Router behind a Cable modem.
Still having timeouts in my web browsers with the final version. So I turned the ESS firewall of and enabled the Windows Firewall again. Still lots of DNS lookup timeouts in my browser or not completely loaded webpages. But I don't have full disconnects from the internet or issues with other applications.
Issues on my second machine with protocol errors, disconnects with Multiplicity seems to be solved.
