i have 1 suggestion for drivesentry. decrease startup time, there is a somewhat noticeable delay at startup for my applications to load at system startup as well as some delay at the Welcome screen on Vista at least, could u plz look into this Katie.

but once everything has started up, my systems performance is better than with most apps, so thats good.

    Hi,

there is a GUI glitch at the Scanner window if I resize it vertically.

    DSscanner.png

And DS is not displayed in Windows Security Center.

    Cheers

as much as i love DriveSentry it still just feels buggy in general when i use my system. im not sure what it is, but it feels buggy when i use my apps and things not working.

i wish the people at DS could make their product feel as smooth as i wish it was... theyve resolved the performance issues ther used to be, now they gotta perfect how smooth the app runs.

Strange. The only issue I have seen so far is, on bootup there is a 20 sec delay before DS kicks in and it not showing up in the security center. When you disable it and then re-enable it it shows up. I would think it should show up when its active in the beginning. Other than these 2 things, the memory runs anywhere between 12m-50m and all my apps are working perfectly. My main concern would be, will this company last?

I liked the idea of DS GA & ran a trial on my U3 flash drive. Unfortunately, I found it unstable & 2 or 3 times it has locked up a customer's pc forcing me to do a hard crash. Another issue is that it takes a long time to load up on flash drive insertion. The 30 secs or so would give a virus loads of time to write to the flash drive. There was also a dialog on flash drive insertion asking whether to run DS GA or not. Not sure how that helps security.

I really wanted to like it. :(

If they wanna last they should charge people more, lifetime licenses for 10 coins is cool but not viable. If it were up to me id cripple the free version, say HIPS n Whitelist only but no sigs, 30 bucks a year with descent discount say 20% for longer subscribtions/renewals - they have generated enough interrest by now, its time to compete with the likes of PX - It still can be done. DS is a solid company with good hard working people behind it, they deserve more n not to mention the app is great at what it does --- prevent zero day malware without confusing the novice (easy readable alerts, whitelisting, sigs) n surely it has alot more to offer then Classical AV out, even the highly rated ones

    Hello Guys,

Thank you for all your comments, good and bad ;)

We concede there are still improvements to be made and will be looking into a few things raised on this forum with a view to taking them forward to future releases. While we're on the subject of releases it won't be an eternity until the next one either

    Kind Regards,

    Katie

PS, 64 bit support is in the pipeline but the we are currently focusing on higher priority projects at the moment. We appreciate there has to be a degree of flexibilty so who's to say current priorities can't or won't change...

The new version is a good improvement with memory usage lower. My only grumble is that the install is getting bigger especially now DS has 3 million signatures :doubt: Why not allow the choice to use the the online "cloud" server or download the signatures to the local PC :isay: Katie do you have any timescales when driver protection is released?

    Just getting around to updating.

What are you folks doing .. uninstall/reinstall of 3.3 or, install over the existing version?

    Thanks.

EDIT: Please disregard. The new version uninstalled the previous and installed itself. Nice.

Try turning off monitor antivirus programs in windows security, then turning monitor antivirus programs back on while DriveSentry is running. If this fails I would suggest reinstalling DriveSentry.

Thanks for the feedback! Driver protection will definately be in the build. I'll try and get a beta version out for you guys to play with in the next couple of weeks providing it's stable enough. This may change either way so I'll give you another update beforehand.

    Kind Regards,

    Katie

change the tray icon to a pretty round bright orange icon, and I bet you would find, folks would come a flocking. I know Katie, sounds stupid, but your tray icon has always been a turn off. Just my 2 cents but I do know what I am talking about.

Yep, you would be shocked when it comes to this selling point.

Hehe, I'm with that. I've always loved that bright lemon-lime yin-yang motif of FD-ISR's, for instance, and it's SO easy to spot. Sandboxie and Winpatrol have it goin' on too.

Current DS icon is poor competition even with the Xed out ethernet network connection icon on my laptop.

As silly as it sounds, I think your right. I really like this app and SBIE but do not like the icons.

Well the tray icon is ugly, but it relates back to a guard and the british origin, also those guards do not speak, so a quiet HIPS/AV would be a nice description of DriveSentry. so as a product icon it is great. May be some soft redesigning to make it less ugly.

By the way I am glad you all like Orange, we dutchies are an orange breed. Thank you, thank you very much (Elvis has just left this thread)

    Katie,

Just so were clear on this, can you tell me if the hips portion of DS GA will work on a limited account or not?

Also, any chance that with newer versions of DS GA the AV portion (and/or hips) will work on a limited account?

I'm not trying to bash DS GA here, but let's face it how useful can it really be if you can't even protect yourself when plugging into a work, school, library, internet cafe etc. computer?

In most cases you will be running a flash drive on a limited account, so to me at least it seems really important to be able to use the product on a limited account, and seeing where others have been able to make their products work on a limited account, why not yours as well?

As I said before, I would be willing to pay a lot more for a version of DS GA that can be run on a limited account, with full protection (AV + hips).

    Thanks for any reply.

Yeah, me too .. liking "Beefy", that is.

If they could program the icon where he'd, periodically, twist his mustache .. or, sight down the rifle barrel? That would be even better.

I had not noticed it prior to the latest vers. It seems he does snap to attention when DS is performing certain tasks. Unsure of this as I have my task bar set to auto-hide and only caught a glimpse. Did not try to recreate it.
