Nowadays it seems like anyone can post a antivirus test results to draw some ebyeballs, but IMHO, these are mostly unreliable sh*ts.
Only independent, uninterested and unrelated third party company/organization who has good reputation in evaluating security industry qualify for evaluating antivirus programs and producing reliable results. Otherwise, posting these sh*ts only wasting people's time.

    It's funny...
Remove Avast and GDATA from the list and it can be applicable in some way. Put AVG some positions over, Norton down and... it can become interesting.

    LOL, interesting? ... Hardly

    people really do post crap.

A downloaded virii collection, tested against on-demand.

    Genius!

I could make tests like this every week without effort.

I could also make tests that drweb detect 100% using many thousands of samples :)

I just love the "avira does it once again" type of comments, crap tests is all you have.

Not that is seems that everyone can post antivirus test, but actually everyone are really posting AV's tests.

    CheckVir December 2008 AV's test.

This whole AV evaluation business looks like it has evolved into the battle of a few startups and mostly Hobbiests and High School Science Projects vs the establishment. Is there any way to determine the reality of these organizations? Some are very open, others could just as well be a branch of the RBN that praises the ones where they have found penetrations. Or paid shills for some AV(s) that want to increase their business. I like the approach of places like Matt's Remove-Malware site where he tries to give you a look and feel for the products, but the raw number sites are o_O

The Malware Research Group's next text will be how av programs fare at removal of malware.
I'd like to see the results of that test.

You just have to adore the my AV fails so I hate the test lines again ;)

My AV doesn't participate in the tests because tests are flawed is another interesting bit of horse puckey.

I think who posted the Results after the test had Dyslexia and read the results backwards with comodo and DrWeb and the actual results where comodo 19.% and DrWeb 98.%

Yes it is a consistent theme on this site. There are always those who assert and rationalize (unsuccessfully) that their AV is great but all the tests show otherwise.

Also they would avow that virus detection rate doesn't represent true anti virus protection. there are other mysterious ways of preventing virus as well. :D

    (sent from phone)

    You have it totally backwards,

The ones who say nothing are the ones who score high and accept it.

People laughed at drweb and others for pulling out of tests, since then there are ALOT more experts, who agree.

Av-comp loses credibilty more and more, and VB was offcially
Slated for being crap when people actually took notice.

These are facts, not random forum postings, you fail to acknowledge anything because you and many others of this forum are scared
    To hear the truth.

Even if you looked into it yourself, you would still dismiss it even if you knowed the truth, hold your head up high and praise something
    You know to be junk.

Have my comments ever been denied by such AV's?

    ... Nope.

Because statements on this forum, get taken for official statements when from a staff employee/expert.

Why on earth would they publically admit their antivirus is junk?

So I ask, like I have many times.... To actual study what your using first, before spreading crap and hearsay from badtesting to ie. Promote such crap to a new user.

You or any there actually done this? Looked into it? Asked questions?

    Clearly not....

And this test is just a plain simple child-like test, propbably on collections,

    Yayyy look, I've got viruses!!!

The fact that the results don't match anything, and AV companys do this, they all do internal testing, they ALL know when something is a miss.

    ... Maybe I'm just a liar :)

I say It's a shame that people will use any form of security without checking what it does, how it secures then and what it is capable of.

Geez, I wouldn't even buy a security camera without cheking this,

    It's simple, commen sense.

... Which clearly, is not so commen here on this forum. :)

See it's all a conspiracy. The firms that produce the AVs with the best detection rates paid off all the testers to show the AVs with poor detection rates in a bad light. And you're right- the AVs with poor detection rates have some mysterious way of protecting your computer- it's just that malware detection isn't part of it.

From what I see, Avira is guilty of winning each and every tests thrown at it, it pays heavily for its consistency which is what a good AV should do, detect everything thrown at it. Of course, there is a lot of EXPERTSo_O o_O o_O who disagree:D Btw, what do these so called experts agree on the criteria of a good AV? Alas we will never get to know that. It remains in its mystical realm of black magic.

Where is the credibility of the so called experts and why they don't come out and start their own testing is beyond my limited understanding. So all in all, Avira is poor cause it detects the most with regular consistency.............NOT! All an average user needs is an anti virus that can detect, after all to know who is the enemy is the main issue here, all virus makers so far follow this path and thats why we have the concept of definition files and engine updates, no voodoo here, just plain old detection and protection against ITW viruses through heuristics. If one AV is guilty of doing its job with consistency, the blame goes to the poor AV maker for their excellence or the tester for admitting its excellence. I for one sincerely hope that Avira deliberately looses, at least then the attention will turn to others hopefully. To me admission of guilt is when you cowardly retreat from the battlefield where the rest have come to test their mettle, that goes to show you are a sham and nothing else, mediocre and not confident of your own product and like an immature child, blame the tester. If other major vendors have come there and decided to participate and brave the results, I admire their courage over a coward who backs off making lame fictitious excuses.

The problem here and I have argued this for a long time, is that some people will promote their AV regardless of any test results. Yes, Avira has shown top-tier results for a long time- and it gets critical comments a lot on this board. However, until such time as the critics can provide me with robust empirical data that shows that top-notch AVs are not top-notch, I will stick with what I am using.
