NOD32 for Mac?

I'm switching to a Mac early'ish next year.

I plan to use Bootcamp so I'm still going to use NOD32 on my Windows setup, however, wondering.. Is ESET looking into releasing an Antivirus product for the Mac? I know that viruses for Mac are few and far between, but it would be good to have the green eye looking over my shoulder.

 

Slashdot just actually posted a story that Mac is quietly asking users to use anti-virus now. This news is going to prompt many Mac users to start using anti-virus soon so it opens an excellent opportunity for ESET to gain in a new market. This will be especially easy since while Apple has been recommending the Mac version of Norton and McAfee, reading the reviews of both people are horribly annoyed at how bloated and slow they are.

We run a G5 in the office here for graphic design so minimizing performance loss while having bulletproof protection would be key. Please do let us know if ESET is planning to have a Mac version of NOD32 on the horizon soon.

 

Make sure you demo the product before you buy it. I did a 30 day trial of one of the big name AV products and it slowed my performance down horribly. I have a MacBook Pro, 11 months old.

Right now I use ClamXav and have it scan things I download. No realtime scanner.

Also, if you purchase VMWare Fusion for Mac which can be found for half price if you look around, it comes with a 1 year trial of McAfee for the Windows VM's. My Bootcamp is also a Fusion VM

 

Unless Eset representatives do a complete 360, based on past responses a Mac version is not in the cards.

 

Just let the representatives reply and don't get peoples hopes up/let people down before they have had a chance to answer.

 

Thanks! More and more people are either buying Mac's or switching to them. It would be in ESET's best interest to look into an antivirus product for Mac.

I will be using ClamXav until I find something lighter.

They're probably monitoring Apple's market share waiting for it to reach a critical level first,

 

While I would love MacNOD, as a company I think eSet needs to grow their brand awareness. No one I know has ever heard of eSet Nod32, except those I've told about it. I'm seeing Kaspersky show up in the big box stores (Bestbuy, Walmart) but I've yet to see Nod32 anywhere other than places like Newegg or SC magazine.

eSet's got a great product. I imagine if they can grab more market share, thus more cash, they'd be better positioned to invest in a Mac client.

Apples market share is more than big enough to support a version of NOD32 for the Mac. The problem is most Mac users don't run an AV and don't believe in or see the need to run one. Until that changes it probably isn't worth the effort to compete in the space.

 

I'm a Mac User, and I would definately buy NOD Antivirus for MAC.

Although I would never buy SmartSecurity for MAC because I looooove the "Little Snitch" Firewall.
