Sorry to see the forum close. I tried E-Mailing Jason recently through his website, but no response. It would be nice to at least hear from him what happened. After 9 months since the last beta it looks like there will be no further development.

I blame Vista for all these security closures and other security soft mergers and acquisitions. Would like to have seen Longhorn = vista wait another twelve years for release and just use service packs, but that's Microsoft's Rule of the road. Developers play their way or it costs 'em.

Hey c'mon :p XP if you consider that with XP you had to wait 3 years to get a (OS built in) firewall so that you wouldn't just float on the net, vista really made a difference in security. If devs cannot make a "few" changes to fit an OS that has still the same core (NT),well...Besides,others work solo and do great in all win types.(cough eqs,OA,sbie)..
x64 is still a black spot though...

I kinda don't think Vista applies in this case. From the last few posts in that forum, it looks like yet another "1-man show" calling it a day. This kind of thing is going to happen as long as there is competition out there that has more than 1-2 people working on it that are there just for developing that product. All it takes is someone coming out with something better than your product and it's over for you, unless you devote your time, energy, and, often money. What would happen if a company/person came to the table with a fantastic DefenseWall-type app? Ilya would of course have to watch the company/person like a hawk to make sure Defensewall wasn't getting left in the dust. If Ilya didn't have the time and resources to keep up, goodbye Defensewall.

I don't like the way Ghost was just "left", but, that is how he saw fit to do it it seems so far, and we can't do a thing about it. But it isn't Vista's fault, by now developers have had PLENTY of time to work through Vista's complications, and, if Vista is secure ENOUGH to leave out one or two less apps, thank MS instead of blaming it for the downfall of security companies.

Easter, your crusade against Vista doesn't seem to have an end. Perhaps we should start using a notorious term, you are really an XP fundamentalist!

On a more serious note, I think the advent of new and more efficient antimalware programs have killed the old guard. I still find it rude and unacceptable the way some of these people pull out of their business without a word. Imagine what would happen if Bill Gates decided to close shop all of sudden like Jason or Wayne.

Enjoy your masked Longhorn O/S for all it's worth. I already exceeded my displeasure so no need to continue to point out the obvious.

Well..the only flaw i saw in the picture so far is that it is based on 2005+ mainstream hardware. If you are running on lower yea,its not an option for you.

This thing is very weird. I thought the development took a leap. I mean, the apps he was developing came closer to perfection. So why did he stop? I am really disappointed. Man, this is a rude business

Is it just closed on Wilders or is it closed for good? I went to the site and if you click "purchase" you are sent to a normal form with payment options, etc. So, probably they still sell the products? o_O

Wilders closed their forum because the developers have not been active recently. I guess they still their products, but don't count on future upgrades/bugfixes.

Strangely enough I have just received update notifications via the inbuilt updater for Ghost Security Suite 1.01 (basically running Regdefend).

    Oh come-on!
Which app is there to replace Jason's magnificent AppDefend, that's efficiently programmed, and effective - it just does the job as its supposed to. I don't like ProcessGuard - which is also quite bulky. Once I got in trouble with PG, when I had added to many programs. I got error's when running EXE's.

Jason was a very good, seasoned programmer, but now he left which is really frustrating.
I don't know how Jason can ever let down this. He spend a real amount of time in this whole business. :'(

Haven't tried, but I see that it is HIPS + firewall, and I already have Look n stop as my preferred firewall. I'm searching for an efficient HIPs only.

Man, I just love the name Ghost Security. I think it's just fun, besides I like the paranormal. I know that when we die we become a ghost. I don't know if others of you are into spiritualism also? The soul is immortal.
Maybe Jason is also fascinated by this subject, hence the name 'Ghost Security'. I think he's right, because the program was so light, that you won't notice it running and thereby giving really subtle/transparant protection.

    Hi Bovisa,

Here is a quote from Jason at ghostsecurity.com:

'A lot of people ask us why we chose such an odd name for a software security company. After all, except in a few cases, ghosts are looked upon in a negative way. The reason stems mostly from the attributes most people associate with ghosts....

That is that they are rarely seen and they are transparent. Security software on a computer should do it's job without needing constant attention (rarely seen) and it should not impact system performance in any noticeable way (transparent). These are the goals we strive for at Ghost Security.'

I perfectly agree with you. It's a pity that GS has gone down.

i don't know the guy, or his circumstances, but if i had to gues, i would say, exhaustion, and the sheer sense of being overwhelmed.

i mean, here you are, coding day and night, compiling, decompiling, debugging til your mind is numb, you look up, and there is Comodo D+ with its army of 200+ developers, it does everyting yours does and more, and the bleeding thing is FREE! then in come marching the Chinese, while theirs is not free, in 6 months it has developed more of a following, than you have in 6 years! the Russians throw Outpost Pro 2009 with it's HIPS, and a converted rocket scientist at you, who designed a HIPS with no pop-ups. the Brits drop a HIPS/BB/AV contraption on your head that does everything from the heavens...if i were Jason, i would have flung myself off a bridge long before now!

    Afraid of the truth?

You know well but won't admit if not for Vista vendors would be reaping deserving profits and not bogged down with problems and resources to fit vista which is ruining windows reputation and losing partnerships with MS.

    MS is horribly run.

I say let's focus on the issue at hand instead of turning it into yet another weak excuse to mindlessly bash MS.

Firewall was there...just took 3 years for them to turn the damn thing on! :p

You forget, if it wasn't for MS, developers would still have to develop choose a particular architecture and its associated OS to program for. MS has made its contribution to computing.
