    Re: Rising Firewall Free Edition?

Interesting... I suppose it's something to expect from the moment that Rising itself doesn't decide to host the file officially on her site.

Sorry to hear that. Bad luck! It's amazing how each system works so differently. In my case it could work even with another firewall already installed. In yours, it brought havoc... :(

It's always exactly the same file (same MD5), only different names.

    Cheers

The same here in principle, but.....after CIS unistallation (was installed but not on-windows-start), all runs OK.
When CIS (COMODO Internet Security) was installed but not running, if I've disabled RISING FW, internet connection was allowed, so I've uninstalled CIS and all becomes fine another time.

    Re: Rising Firewall Free Edition?

Didn't happen to me in the half of a day while using rfwz08.exe but one of my friends also told me the same thing regarding random http connection loss.
I still use the Rising Firewall 2008 the 1st version that was talked about here(RFWFREE 14.4 MB) which works flawless and is now at 28.78.40 and considering that there are weekly updates it's still maintained.
So if u have problems that version still seems to works great.

I think the firewall is now redirecting traffic to a different port to what avasts web scanner uses.Any experts know how to get this to work with avast web scanner?

Mmm after much playing about, avast web scanner functions if risings URL filter options i.e block phishing and other malicious websites and enable web blacklist and whitelist are disabled.Dunno if any other folks here use avast and rising but that seems to work

about lost connection just installed the firewall & lost connection what I did is reboot twice and everything is fine, the firewall is smooth as hell I have just one question the firewall now has got HIPS & I have Rising antivirus which also has HIPS. wouldn't they conflict with one another.

    Re: Rising Firewall Free Edition?

    2good,

I think they are intended to work together. Because Rising AV does not has process modification protection (causes also a lot of False Positives), it is my guess that they applied it smartly (like the AV HIPS), by only protection the programs guarded by the firewall from tampering.

So both the HIPS of the AV and the FW would not be smart like ThreatFire for instance, but because the 'dumb' rules are applied seperately on threat source and attacked object, they would throw very little pop-ups at you (few false positives of the HIPS)

    Please, show the screen displays.

    Cheers

    Re: Rising Firewall Free Edition?

No problems using both (AV & FW), I'm just suggest to use the 2009 vers AV (slight differences from the 2008 vers), both 2009 vers could be make a better work without problems together than a 2008AV with another 2009FW.

Also you can test the pre-release of RISING Internet Security 2009 (RIS09), has the same protection well integrated.
If you will, I've downloaded from this link: http://rsdownload.rising.com.cn/for_down/rsfree/risfree09.exe

Does Rising firewall 2009 have arp protection? Also if I were to get Zemana Antilogger would there be any conflict?

there shouldnt be conflicts between them, but only way to know for sure on ur system is to try it out. I THINK Rising FW has ARO, someone else wuld need to confirm that.

    Re: Rising Firewall Free Edition?

Yes, Rising Firewall 2009 has "ARP spoofing protection".

I'm using Zemana Antilogger with Rising Internet Security 2009 (HIPS enabled, the stronger is from the AV part) and both run without conflicts, but I've previously disabled "System-Defense" from Zemana protection, maintaining enabled the rest of protections. So I'm using Zemana for just "antikeylogger".

But if you are only using RisingFW + Zemana, I'm thinking better protection (and no conflicts should be) is enabling "System-Defense" from Zemana protection.

Is there a FREE version of Rising Firewall?

And who wrote Rising Firewall? Are they a well known and reputable company?

Is this the official Rising website?

Rising Firewall has HIPS? What's HIPS? And why is HIPS good?

Thanks Kees for the info sorry I couldn't upload the screenshots I found the link that Zen posted & I want to thank him also anyway I had to uninstall both the firewall & the antivirus to try the suite & let me tell you it was no easy task uninstalling Rising even with Revo uninstaller you reboot and Rising still there. I finally managed to clean it out before installing the latest, all I could say that its very very nice treat.

Yes, shows advertisements (popup balloons) for the ARP blocked packets when these defense rules are triggered. But I'm thinking only blocks and inform you when success if "block options" are enabled.

I've uploaded one screenshot of these configuration settings:

Wow! Thanks Zen! You are using Rising free right? Well it seems to have many features and options other free firewalls lack!
