Is NOD32 protecting me?

Hi!
I had some problem with my computer, which resulted in that I had to turn it off manually. After this, the NOD32 Control Center icon is no longer visible in the system tray. However, the process nod32krn.exe is running. Am I protected as before? Should I do something?

If you just shut down the program via the right click menu from the icon in the system tray it should come back when you reboot the system. If you did shut down the program in this manner then no you are not protected until you have it up and running again.

I did not shut down NOD32. I had to manually force a reboot of my system as it hung after some problems with an external disk. Rebooting does not restore the icon. However, NOD32 Kernel Service is checked under the Services-tab in MSCONFIG and nod32krn.exe is running. I can restore the icon by manually starting NOD32 Control Center. If I am not protected unless the Control Center icon is visible, how do I get the Control Center to start automatically on booting?

 

I tried a "repair install" but all I could do was to uninstall. So now I've downloaded and reinstalled NOD32. Problem solved. Why is it that this is always what you end up doing when you have computer problems...?

 

If you were running under Vista, it is a common problem that system tray icons sometimes disappear for some unknown (to me at least) reason. There are various free utilities available from various Vista support sites that reset the registry icon keys and that fixes the problem, until it occurs again. You can find these utilities by googling around. Try something like "system tray icons disappear vista."
