Any plans for Acronis Disk Director 11?

Hi,

I'm just wondering if there are any plans for a new Disk Director Version. I've been waiting for a new Disk Director version for a long time... I see True Image evolving a lot and I was hoping the same thing for Disk Director, as far as I can tell (I may be wrong) there 2 new versions of True Image while none for Disk Director during the same time period since the last version of Disk Director was released.

I would to see a new version supporting Vista to it's fullest, just like True Image with the new interface and all it's new features, it looks just great.

Any plans for a new version?

 

Acronis has stated that it has plans for an update to DD 10. I assume it will have an updated kernel and better support for newer hardware. There is no date mentioned, of course.

 

But an update to DD 10 or a new version of DD? It's two completetly different things

If it's just an update, we probably won't see a redesign of the interface just like in the latest TI...

In fact, I hope they add the old XP-style UI as an option to all new products!

 

I would prefer the interface to use the system theme, no matter what the OS. In other others, without themes/skins. But since they like to custom their UI, I would prefer to have fit the OS I'm using, which is Vista. But yes, they should an option at least for people that don't.

 

I mainly use the (safe) DOS version, so whether it's Vista or XP, it won't be a native (running) system theme...

 

But they need to design something don't they?

 

I don't care if the UI looks like XP or Vista or Windows 7. I just hope they add the necessary support for newer hardware (and file systems) and fix the existing bugs. If I had to choose between them, I'd say, add support, fix the bugs and leave the UI like it is.

 

Supporting my HW (in full mode) would be on top of my list as well of course...

 

I was just about to bump my 1 year old asking the same question the OP did, but it wouldn't let me.

So even the question asking for an update to a quite outdated software got outdated.

If we're ever going to see something new i'm very sure it won't be an update but a full version - or as has been mentioned an integration into another product.

Windows 7 is around the corner, having had a partition with the beta build of it completely screwed up any Acronis program on my PC, my images would show as corrupted and don't even ask how gloriously DD failed.

 

Could you post any details of what happened with Windows 7 on yours? I am trying to configure OSS for it at the moment and it would be very nice to avoid disaster if I am headed that way.

uh...now i have to continue the ranting

First of all, if possible stay away from OSS.
Problem is: you make a mistake with installing/configuring at some point and it will be so hard to get rid of it, only to get at least back to square one.
Sorry i can't provide any technical insight but it was persistant like a witches curse.

Although less practical i recommend using different hard-drives for different OS'es, that way you can use the Bios boot-menu (hitting an F-key at startup) to select the OS you wan't to boot. Set your main OS as first boot-drive, F-keying for the secondary - imo that's still o.k. practical.
This method also gives you the ability to unplug non-concerned drives during OS-install to ensure no smut lands on your other OS (yes, you vista).

For the W7 issue - again i can't give any technicals, can only describe what happened:

After having a partition with a W7 installation present on one of my drives, TI failed at a reboot restoration of my regular xp-OS for no apparent reason - from that point on, no Acronis product would work anymore, not DD, not TI (both 11 and 12), not the rescue-cd's, not from my other Vista-test partition.
I got the TI rescue-cd to boot (DD wouldn't even start or get stuck) but it wouldn't be able to make use of my images (showing every single one of them as corrupted).

I got out of this by using a Paragon boot-cd, with which i was able to delete the Windows7 partition - after that, everything was magically back to normal.

NO clue how this stuff happened.

So far i haven't yet tried to restore the image i pulled from Windows7, don't feel like another headache atm.

I've been using the previous TI build labeled 'update 1' at that time.
