Does WinPatrol have self termination protection?

    Edit: added "self"

And what happened if you check "Confirm exit when closing WinPatrol Monitor"?

I can kill the process in Process Explorer.
WP exits without a sound / notification.

I have always thought of Winpatrol as primarily an information gathering tool Vs an anti-malware tool. If I wanted to rely on it more for real time protection then process termination protection would be important. I wonder if anyone has suggested this to the author?

Efficacy of their Infiltration Detection reported here: http://www.winpatrol.com/rid.html
Note: Link is sponsored by WP author.

I agree that the "information tool" aspect of WP is very illuminating. A valuable added bonus to the proggie.

Actually there is another little app by Bill called Task Catcher. Its aim is to constantly monitor the apps you selected (monitor for running or stopping). You can set TC to restart Winpatrol automatically in case of accidental shut down or just throwing up a window saying that Winpatrol is not running. Yes, it has not got a self protection either but not very many nasties have cared about WP and TC so far.
(edit) Actually TC is what the author himself uses to avoid unintentional shut downs or start ups. For me it works great.

That's kind of how I look at it as well. I've always considered it a "PC Manager" type program, with some nice security features...but I use it mainly to basically manage my PC and keep it free of a bunch of unwanted startups (by disabling them, etc.), control how services are managed, quickly kill active tasks, look up unknown exe's and dll's, etc. I haven't used the "Delayed Start" feature, but it also seems like a nice feature, addition and touch.

WP is a really good startup programs manager, and has some other very nice features as well. Anytime something wants to install itself as a startup program, or installs services, etc., it will immediately alert, and it's easy to then manage and control how the programs/services are treated.

I would recommend WinPatrol based off of my experience with it. Nice program...and even the free version can serve a useful purpose. But half price for the paid version is VERY nice, even if it was just a one day deal. And while I haven't been alerted by WP as far as malware goes....that's probably because my AV has always caught and quarantined or deleted anything before it really ever became a threat.....
