To the ones that are affected by this bug - please list your all your background processes that are or could be running during a backup (besides the standard windows services). Maybe it's an interference, possibly with an AntiVirus for example.

The additional background applications on my recent test machine are:

• ESET NOD32 3 AntiVirus
• Google Desktop (and therefore also Google Update)
• Hamsin Clipboard (an application to manage multiple clipboard entries (Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V))
• UltraVNC
• SpeedFan
• usbshare.exe (from a Belkin USB Switch, where you can connect one USB device to multiple computers)
• TClock
• StarWindService.exe (from Alcohol 120%, to mount images)
• The Acronis services of course
• Outlook is also usually running. And I think while it is running, the outlook.pst (and all other opened .pst files) do net get deleted.

Ok, Monday came and went without .PST loss. For me it seemed removing the "run when missed task" fixed it. I will wait and see if it happens again.

I am also experiencing ATIH2009's annoying "delete pesky pst files" feature.

After several years of glich free service from ATIv8, I purchased copies of ATIH v11 for a small insurance office six computers) that I support when they upgraded computers. Before I had a chance to install v11, the 2009 product was released so I installed that on five of the computers.

On two of the computers (identical Dells with XP Pro SP3 and Office 2003 fully updated), ATIH2009 had the very annoying habit of deleting the user's .pst file. After performing routine maintenance, I would do a full backup of the computer's three partitions (two Dell hiddens and the C:), then set ATIH2009 to do periodic incrementals of the C: overnight, four times a week.

I would get a call in the morning from the user saying they were seeing a strange message from Outlook telling them that Outlook could not find the established .pst file. Upon arrival I would see that there was no "outlook.pst" file in the default established location of c:\documents and settings\[username]\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\. Searching the computer showed it was not on the computer, and it was not in the Recycle Bin.

I would run ATIH2009, find the most recent backup increment, then restore it to the original location, and Presto the user's email, contacts, and what have you were restored.

I never did nail down why this was happening. I simply reverted the computers running ATIH2009 back to ATIH v11. The one Vista/Office 2007 computer is still running ATIH2009 because there have been no reported problems with this configuration.

This has happened to my client also. After installing and configuring ATI Home 2009, everything seemed to be working OK for a few days. Then she calls me one morning to say that her Outlook mailbox as well as her desktop wallpaper has VANISHED! Sure enough, they were gone from the HDD but I did find them in the most recent incremental backup.

I opened a case with Acronis tech support and submitted the diagnostic reports they requested. But I still have not heard anything from them as to the status or even a temporary fix. Tried to contact several times - no response.

It seems that ATI Home 2009 will delete files and folders from "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft". This is the folder where the current wallpaper is stored as "Wallpaper1.bmp" and the Outlook folder hangs off of this parent folder too.

In the meantime, I relocated her Outlook mailbox from the default data store location (unsafe!) to another location on the drive. This seems to help. No disappearing PST file yet! However, the problem with the vanishing wallpaper still occurs so I showed her how to set it back using display properties. But as a previous poster commented - who knows what else gets deleted without our knowledge?

Hardware/software used:

Dell OptiPlex GX270 (w/latest BIOS and drivers)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional (w/latest updates)
NTFS filesystem
Acronis True Image Home 2009 (Build 9646)
Set up to do full image backups and incrementals
Microsoft Office 2003 (w/latest updates)

Hope I was of some help to anyone else with this very annoying software bug. Hey Acronis, wake up!

Mike

Well, I guess emailing tech support back and forth actually paid off. I tested the new build and it seems to have fixed the problem. Why did it have to take them 3 months? Anyway, hope it works for everyone.
