Backup of 2 Linux Partititions with True Ima

I've installed two OSs.: Vista and openSUSE. Now I'm trying to backup the both Linux partititions root (Ext3) and home (Ext3) on an external sata disk, which is fat32-formatted. But I allways get an error: "Die Aktion ist fehlgeschlagen"
(Acronis True Image Home 2009)

 

Are you using the latest build of TI 2009 (9,646)?

Are you trying to do the backup from Vista or from the TI CD?

Can you successfully backup the Vista partition to the external drive?

 

I have found that if using TI Home in MS Windows to image a Linux partition, I have to select ' sector by sector ' for the Linux partition, otherwise imaging fails.

My setup on laptop - partition0 Vista Business, partition1 Suse Linux.

Thanks! The trick with sector-by-sector works! But: one partition is readable (by doubleclicking the *.tib)

Both are linux-ext3-partititions. Both are not mountable (Abbild anschließen): failed!

 

Why are you using Windows SW to backup and restore Linux partitions??

I've been doing backups and restores of Windows and Linux partitions for years, and have found that the most reliable solution is using Windows products for Windows partitions, and using Linux products for Linux partitions.

I have several multi-OS machines and have found that P.I.N.G (Partimage Is Not Ghost) works very well for the Linux partitions. It's available from their website (windowsdream.com) for free (of course). You burn the ISO to a CD, boot using that, and can use a screen-oriented interface (or the command line, if you want) to do both backups and restores.

You can also use it for your Windows partitions -- but as you can guess with my comments above, I don't recommend that.
