We are thinking about switching from Symantec to ESET business with RA and I am not 100% clear about the licensing. We are expanding fairly rapidly and I'm not sure how adding licenses would work.

Say I buy a license for 100 client package on 2/1/2009 and use 100% of them.
On 3/1/2009 I need to add another 5-10 clients. What happens then?

I could buy a 10 client license, and merge it with the 100 client license for a total of 110, but from what I have read the license would then expire on on 2/1/2010, essentially wasting the month difference.

Also, what would the 10 additional licenses cost? I am not clear when buying addons if the price bracket relates to the number of seats purchased at that time or the total number of seats,

With the new version 3.0.39 of RA Server you can have multiple licenses which you couldn't before so now you have two options for licensing:

You can ask to upgrade to a new 110 client license in which case the distributor will calculate a price where you "return" the 100 client license and buy a new 110 client which will end in for instance 2 years. That way you will have only one license and one expiration date.

The other option is to buy new licenses in at least packs of 5 a time in which case you will have different expiration dates.

I am not sure when it comes to the price of the additional licenses as the option of adding licenses to RA Server is so new I haven't had any customers asking for it yet.

Whenever I've purchased additional licenses i speak with my reseller, eset issues me a new license with the same expiry date, and then our bill is pro-rated to match (i.e. we only pay for the difference between now and the end of our license.

For example: I bought 5 additional licenses two months before our existing licenses expired for the year. They cost me like $4 each since they were only good for two months instead of a full year.

That is what we do as Resellers as well with customers in your situation. It happens a lot. You can have your license set to expire with the previous license and have it prorated so you aren't losing any time.
