I know this must sound like a stupid question, but I am getting ready to install XP SP3, and I need to know for certain how to turn the program off completely. There is a Quit button at the bottom of the control center--is that what I need to use? The NOD 32 Help wasn't very helpful, at least not to me.

Has anyone installed SP3 with NOD32 turned on?

I have been Googling on how to turn off NOD 32 v. 2 and it looks like using the Quit button still leaves nod32krn.exe running. One solution I found was to use MSConfig to disable NOD32 in startup and disable the Kernel Service. That sounds a bit too complicated for me.

When we had to install SP3 at work, the techs didn't have us disable the Sophos antivirus on our machines and there wasn't any problem with the installation, so I was wondering if it is really necessary to turn off NOD 32 first. Has anyone tried it?

It is not necessary to disable an anti virus when patching a machine with updates of any sort.

Well, Microsoft advised people to turn off firewalls, antispyware, and antivirus when installing Service Pack 3, so I didn't want to take chances. In the end, I disabled all the modules of NOD 32 within the control center, and hit the Quit button for good measure. The Windows Security Center said it was turned off, so I guess it was.

I managed to install the service pack without it breaking anything (that I have noticed, anyway). So I guess all's well that ends well.

    :)

    Hello,

A general (not related to NOD32) recommendation: Check to see if you have the latest device drivers for your sound and video cards with their respective manufacturers. Some computers may have problems after installing a service pack if they do not have recent device drivers.

    Regards,
