I selected "other" because there is no poll option to select more than one.
Main resident AV is Avast Home.
Has never given a significant problem, insignificant problems were fixed quickly, updates are small, forum support is amongst the best....it just works.

 

i love nod32 AV but i must tell you that in my opinion kaspersky is the best. it has everything you need to be protected...it is light on system resources, scans quite fast (v and if it tells you there is a virus in your computer then it is so...checked many many times with www.virustotal.com
but i sincerely tell you that nod32 AV is my one and only

 

I think Kaspersky version 8 is still one of those antivirus softwares that have super slow scanning speed when run in a full scan mode.

 

I agree with the above post that there should have been the ability to select more than one av. I have Nod on my desktop and Kaspersky on my laptop.

No AV at the moment. I feel safe with my current setup.

 

Like "mrizos" I did some tests on my son's computer (which every 6 months) becomes so infected that he begs me to do something about it (he is a gamer, and there is nothing to steal in terms of personal data, so he is only interested in a working machine)

I just want to say without mentioning the competition that Avira Premium was way in front of at least two big names (when I say in front it means 8-9 pieces of malware when the others scanned clean, and no FPs). Now of course what I'm saying could be BS for some, I could be lying, anything is possible.

Mrizos tested Avira with positive results, AV comparatives has declared Avira AV of the year, my own experience is excellent, they have a superb free version and a very reasonably priced premium version. You draw your own conclusions.

 

NOD32 is my vote for know but in late of 2009 when my license expires although currently not in use,I probably will run without any scanners at least realtime.

I guess it's partially because there's a NOD32 forum here.

 

I think it's because you're using HIPS applications like me.

 

I'm alternating among a number of hard drives, each with a different antivirus application.
My primary four drives have;
1) Avast professional/Zone Alarm Pro Firewall.
2) Avira Security Suite ver. 8.2.0.252
3) Kaspersky Security Suite ver. 7
4) Norton Security Suite 2009.

On all of the above, I also use Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware 2008, and Superantispyware plus online scanners from Eset and A-Squared.

Installed on other drives, I have Comodo Security Suite and Avast Home/PC Tools FW. Both also have Avira Classic with the real time guard deactivated for use as a second opinion scanner.

You might say i've overdone it !

 

I would say you wouldn't need A-Squared and Ad-Aware since you have two awesome backup scanner: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and SuperAntispyware.

 

Avira free version.

No way! I would say you are probably having a great time! You obviously do it because you enjoy it, just like quite a few others here. Only you take it to a higher level of variety! I bet a lot of people read your post and thought, "Wow, four hard drives, four different set ups, that would be cool!".

Are you partial to one drive more than the others? Why did you stop at four? (Joking!)

 

Nod32 is highly regarded, and it deserves it. It has consistently kept very high standards, and lately it has slowed down a bit because of the creation of the suite. It'll be interesting to see what's going to happen in 2009.

 

Other: Outpost Security Suite. (Outpost AV)

 

I tried KIS09 for 10 minutes and it assulted my hardware in that 10 minute timespan ... until I uninstalled it.

 

No AV at the moment, Avira Free and SAS as ondemand, but it varies based on my mood.
