    Hello all,

I just noticed the following AVG Paid install file on their website: http://www.avg.com/filedir/inst/avg_ipw_stf_en_8_227a1407.exe.

If this install follows AVG's common naming convention, then this is AVG V8.227, and is probably the long-awaited Service Pack 2 release that has been discussed in this forum recently. Hopefully we should know more soon.

I'm not familiar with AVG but isn't it possible to verify that you have SP2 after installation?

Will we get SP2 with an update or is a reinstall necessary?

AVG has done some work on the ram and cpu load. It seems very light overall. and the browsing really fast.

Do you have AVG Internet Security v8.0.227 now? AVG Free is still at v8.0.176

ntero, it's not unusual for the Free version to lag behind the Paid version as far as AVG upgrades are concerned. It has been that way for years. IMO, whenever there is a series overhaul (like from 7.5 to 8.0), that's when the Free users are hammered with problems and become the guinea pigs for the new series, but then again, you can't have everything for free. ;)

Have they updated the free version yet, or only the suite(pro)?

"The AVG Free 8.0.200 update is being provided gradually - not all AVG Free users will be provided with this version immediately."

    I hope so ... :p

sp1 was not a reinstall directly from their website- it came via an updater and once it executed it uninstalled and reinstalled itself that way.

I downloaded 8.0.227 here and am running it, and it is really nice, lighter than previous builds but not really faster. It has fixed a very big bug I had with previous versions (internet connection being terminated and not being able to connect to the internet after 8.0.196 and up, AVG's fixes didn't work). Some information on the AVG beta forum states that this build is not the "final" SP2 but rather a "release candidate", which might explain why it isn't being pushed to users via the automatic update. However, it seems to be working well.

it is a realease candadate. From what i found out there are still bugs in it and they are not pushing it through the updater until they get these bugs out.

Yes, I have run across a few minor bugs, but nothing that a reinstall did not fix, so as far as that keeps working I'll continue using it :)

One thing that I still don't like, is the fact that, if we have LinkScanner Lite/Pro already installed in our systems, it won't proceed the installation without installing the integrated LinkScanner. We first need to uninstall the standalone LinkScanner.

They should allow us to proceed the installation and ignore the fact that LinkScanner is already installed.
