another security software alongside with nod32 AV

what other security software do you recommend to install, to work with nod32 antivirus? i am a security mania...thanks in advance

 

I'd just get the suite and be done with it if you don't have a router, or you have a home network. Although people with a mania typically install way way to much stuff.

You get the power of Ikurus antivirus (But only on file execution so no clashes with other AV)

That would be a good set up.

I have used A-Squared Antimalware with Avast and currently using with Kasperky Internet security suite.

Prevx edge would be another contender.

So a resident Av wouldn't attempt to react on the file execution?

 

You could turn off file execution if you had conflicts. It used about 90 megs of memory on my computer. I use Antivir Premium and OA Firewall for my desktop and notebook.

I have heard that it won't conflict with other antivirus products, but I guess it just depends on the circumstance. I did a test file (EICAR) and only Antivir jumped on it.

 

I don't quite understand how it works but check out there website. Claims it can be run alongside other av.

I have been using it with KIS. If you are downloading a file, saving or copying it Antimalware won't react, however your normal resident guard will have. Thus if not detected by your normal AV, the file also gets checked by Ikurus as you double click the file. plus behaviour is checked as file is run.

I was able to get it for free earlier this year, but not sure if you want to spend 40 bucks (holiday discount if less)?

On their website it can co-exist with other security software or you can just use A-Squared 4.0 as a standalone security product.

On-demand scans can cause false positives, but you are able to send them a sample with one click.

It uses more memory because of the additional anti-virus component compared to Threatfire.

 

alongside nod32,without conflicts,you could use ,i think,only Boclean. Or you could try the new beta of Eset Smart Security - v4.

 

It's been a while since I used NOD32 but I think you need an on-demand spyware scanner like SAS. My recollection is that NOD32 does not protect itself as well as it might therefore something to prevent other processes from terminating it might also be useful (much better in version 4 I hear).

If you have a 'mania' you should perhaps look at some of the better HIPs applications like Malware Defender. They can be hard work but offer granular control of your security set-up. Behaviour blockers like Threatfire or Mamutu are an alternative as well as some form of virtualisation like Returnil or Shadow Defender

IMO the best piece of security software I have is sandboxie. It isolates an apps activity (like browsers or other internet facing apps) inside a 'sandbox' away from your core system. If properly configured it can prevent malware from executing and or accessing the internet from inside the sandbox and can stop sandoxed apps from reading or writing to specified folders, files or partitions. When you close the sandboxed app it can be set so all the activity is deleted removing any accumulated tracks or malware from the last session.

All should work well with NOD32.

First of all, I think you should ask yourself if you have the knowledge to work with certain tools. Or the will to learn them.

For example, someone suggested Mamutu, which I don't doubt it's quality, but it does present alerts, even though being a behavior blocker. So, that makes of it a non-pure behavior blocker. You will have know how to answer to certain alerts. One great thing, is that, if you're connected to the Internet, and if you get an alert, you'll see a rating based on what people chose as an answer. Still, you need to know how to answer.

So, the question you should ask is - Do I have the knowledge or will and time to learn how to answer?

I think the best way is to use easy to use preventive tools, such as sandboxie, which was mentioned by chris1341.

I also agree that you should use one other antispyware along side NOD32. Perhaps, using Malwarebytes and SUPERAntispyware, in their free versions, and run them as on demand, would be welcome.

Also, which browser do you use?

I have ran Nod32 alongside SAS Pro in Vista HP without a single issue for over a year now. Just wait for the SAS price after an update to show $19.99 for lifetime license. Their ad says today only but most everyone knows that is not true. Been that way for as far back as I can remember.
