    Hi all,

Does anyone know any programs that can scan a download for spyware and viruses. For example, if I download an exe file I want to know if it has come bundled with malware.

    Thanks!

Any resident AV scanner should be able to do this, plus any installed resident or demand AS that has the context menu option (where present) enabled.
That narrows it down to, oh, probably about 50 programs. Maybe 100.:D
Which raises the question: What if the .exe you download has malware bundled for which none of your scanners have signatures?

I use MalwareBytes Anti-malware and SuperAntiSpyware plus my anti-virus to scan anything I download. The free versions are on-demand only which means they don't protect in real time so they are perfect for scanning downloads or your system. A-squared also has a free on-demand scanner which is good.

If your file is under 10MB, you can upload it to a service like VirusTotal or Jotti to be scanned by multiple scanners. If you do use them, be prepared for some false positives/alerts.

I have both of those programs but could not find the option to scan individual files. Are you sure that option is available in the free version?

djohn is correct. Right click the file to scan it.

MBAM as far as I know when using the GUI can't scan individual files except when right-clicking a file. Superantispyware can be set to scan certain folders with it's Custom scan. I usually have my Desktop setup this way because that is where I download everything to be scanned.

Absolutely. Just right click the file concerned, and if you enabled the context menu during the install, the option should appear to scan it.
Pictured below an example of a folder on the desktop, right-clicked.

Tend to agree also with djohn above. That site and the products it is promoting have been the subject of some debate, at least in part due to the way one of them - Spyzooka - has been promoted, which is basically to diss the (respected) competitor product (SAS IIRC).
