excuse me - what is gr8? is that in some language than English? If so, which? I realize this is an international forum, but there's no link, nothing. Is this message attempting to communicate something or stifle the communication?

act8192, I believe 'gr8' is 'mobile phone text speak' for 'great'.

Just thought I'd say that I'm giving this deal a miss. Reason?

    1) Lots of free, equally good software firewall alternatives, and need for a software firewall isn't that great behind a router with NAT/SPI

    2) HIPS such as D+/SSM/RTD etc can monitor outbound connections and provide the "host protection" found in outpost free of charge now...

    3) The VirusBuster engine found in OSS is not well established. There may be holes in it's signature definitions and you'd have more peace of mind using Avira Free + Super Antispyware Pro or similar.

    4) Spam Terrier is free... and other suite components have free alternatives too such as AdBlockPlus, Ie7 Pro...

Just my 2 cents worth... :D

You've got some points, but, there are a lot of people who like Outpost. Besides, Lifetime is a very long time. And in time the software will become beter.

Very disappointed and shocked by the poor malware detection of Outpost Security Suite.

I've bought the 'lifetime' license in the hope that over time it will improve. For now it will be installed on non critical systems.

All anti-virus engines have holes in their signature definitions. I download virus executables al the time. I have never been infected just downloading. After uploading to VirusTotal, those other "well established" engines have also missed detection. In some cases OSS detected a virus while the VirusBuster entry in VirusTotal did not. Outpost may be using the VirusBuster engine, however, it is a modified version as explained here.

Many times an anti-virus engine does detect the virus until execution. Often times the executable is not in the signature database, but the payload is. I'm not saying Outpost's anti-virus engine is the best, it's not, however, it's not 100% VirusBuster engine either.

Those "well established" products are great, but I prefer not to have to worry about compatibility problems. If I was to only use an anti-virus product, it probably would not be Outpost Antivirus Pro; however, the weaknesses of the anti-virus engine when combined with the protection of Outpost Security Suite more than compensates. Bottom line is, the only way you are going to get infected in the first place is via execution, downloading does not cause infections. Outpost's Host Protection will alert you to unknown programs attempting to execute, it up to you to Allow or Block it. Does not matter if the anti-virus engine picks it up or not.

Has Outpost AV ever taken part in any AV comparision test (Other than VB100) ??
That would close the debate on how good the AV engine is vis-a-vis VirusBuster and the rest of the competition.

You have some good points there and I guess that because it is a modified VirusBuster engine (with the old tauscan) it should do better.

I only questioned the AV engine because from past experience I have read some reviews of AV scanners and some such as Norman, missed quite a few viruses because the company's AV product wasn't "well established" and relatively new.

My opinion is that while suites definetely have advantages such as compatibility as all components made by one company, people on wilders like to fiddle and by running a suite you won't have the freedom to switch between other apps easily anymore. Say you don't like the firewall and only want to run the AV. Can't do that can we.

    Edit: Clarity, Example

With the right modifications, it will work with some 3rd party software as explained here.

    chrisretusn, I agree.

But there is no dispute that when taken alone Outpost Security Pro's AntiVirus/Malware/Spware component is very poor, freeware AVs such as AVG, Avira, AVast identified and neutralized all threats. If Outpost Security Pro is to be used by 'Mom' / 'Dad' / 'Grandad' / 'Grandma' etc then we simply can't rely on the HIPS component.

Bold emphasis, I totally disagree with "identified and neutralized all threats". Please point me in the direction of those test that show 100%

I have Wife, Kids and Friends using Outpost Security Suite and they are doing fine. Not one single infection to date.

Testing of antiviruses for the treatment of active infections III | Anti-Malware Test Lab
Agnitum Outpost Antivirus Pro 6.5 (53%) received a Bronze Malware
Treatment Award. Two of the above products received Poor results.

Agnitum (and VirusBuster I might add) earned a VB100 awards this year.

One thing I would like to point out with the lasted version of Outpost in Outpost Security Suite, you can disable Web Control, Anti-Malware protection and Anti-Spam on new installations. This should allow you to install you favorite AV product without problems.

They detected all threats that OSS failed to detect. I wouldn't be so stupid to believe that AntiMalware will detect all threats. Hope that clarifies my post?

That's nice, but does not change my opinion of OSS's very poor detection of malware.

Thank you, I'm aware of that option and it's exactly what I've done.

    Mapson,

Thanks for your responses. I'm not trying to change your opinion I just pointing out that all AV's have weakensses. I have no idea what AV you are using, but I have had viruses detected by OSS and not detected by AVG and Avast so it works both ways.

Right now I am testing Outpost Firewall Pro without Web Control and Anti-Spyware with Avast on my test machine. It's working fine. I am sure the same would occur with OSS with Web Control and Anti-Malware not installed.

At any rate one thing we both can agree on... we are both satisfied with our individual setups. Mine being OSS only. Yours with OSS minus the AV and your favorite AV package. :)

Cheers and have a Happy New Year. :)

    I trrrrieeeed! I trrriiiiiied! I swear i did! :ouch:

But i could no longer resist! And then resist for 1 more month? It was too much! o_O

I bought a lifetime license for the firewall! So now i have an AV and a firewall with lifetime licenses!

I just can't resist to "lifetime"! So, long live Outpost Firewall!

And Happy New Year to everyone! :argh:

P.S. : If i start talking about temptating AV or firewall offers in the next 2 years at least, please, somebody stop me!

P.S.: For any other potential customer, their problems with the Keygen are apparently solved, as i got the key immediately after paying, following by email with the key only a couple of minutes later.

Re: Agnitum’s New Year Gift Lifetime License

:D Nah, i won't fall for that! Fortunately, realtime antispywares are probably the only type of security software lifetime license that doesn't interest me. Besides, Twister is supposed to scan for spyware/adware too. Currently i have no antispyware program installed.

    You 're mean though. :D

Ah, yes, i guess i should change the firewall now and "de-japanize" Sandboxie. :D

    Thanks and happy new year!

Actually that wasn't so cruel. 39.95 + VAT (for EU), would end up around 47 $ , which is what i paid for the firewall.

    On the other hand, THIS:

    http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/5074/59059879av4.png

would be much more cruel, because the price is much more tempting... But still, i don't like realtime antispywares. If it was say, a behav blocker, at this time i would be all over the offer. :D
