    Hello

Eset should return to using the visual interface of NOD32 2.70.39 in version 4 that it consumes less resources?

    Greetings

No, v4 is much more user friendly, especially for new users. v2 was horrible for the general newbie.

ok. but that does not consume the new interface more than 35 mb of memory in total.

Unless you are leaving the GUI up and and running 24/7 most of that will be paged out. Stop obsessing over numbers in the task manager.

I'm not interested in visual interface. My antivirus have to find viruses, not to be beatiful...
So if we can have the same protection level with less memory usage, why not?:cautious:

You have ram in your system, letting it sit idle is pointless. If you're really that obsessive over silly metrics that don't amount to **** when it comes to system performance, then kill off the egui.exe process and make all your configuration changes directly in the registry.

Does ctrl + g for text only view drop the load?

surely that figure is for ekrn (the kernel), not egui (the interface). My egui is only using 2692kb.

This all comes back to the whole concept of progress in computing. Hardware evolves to allow us to run more complex, fully-featured and aesthetically pleasing software. If you want a program which looks like the ancient NOD v2 then surely it would be best to install v2, but in this era of quad core CPU's and cheap gig sticks of RAM, please don't drag us back to the dark ages!

There is no doubt in my experience that the V2 interface would scare off many more users than it would attract so returning to that would be like ESET shooting themselves in the foot.

It would be nice if they could modify the GUI so its user-friendly when at the same time consumes less resources. I am sure this is possible.

Unless i'm wrong egui.exe is the GUI which is using less then 6mb ram on my computer running version 4 beta. That is also the case for my other computer running nod32 version 3.0. So if that is correct is it actually the GUI that is using most of the ram and will it make much difference going back to the v2 GUI? It seems like the ekrn.exe process is what is using 35mb of ram and unless i'm wrong that process has nothing to do with the GUI.

I believe there are other new features of nod32 v3 that responsible for using more ram which is not related to the GUI at all. That's the price we have to pay for new versions with enhancments/new features to make the product better doing the job which is the primary reason we installed the software in the first place.....which is to protect the computer.
I'm sure the new GUI use a bit more ram compared to v2, but when people talk about 35-40mb of ram then they are no longer talking about the resources used by the GUI. So changing the GUI back to v2 to decrease the ram usage from 5-6mb to 2-3mb is that what this is all about?

Compared to other AV software nod32 v3 is still very low on resources and i'm more concerned about how well the software actually work and how well my computer is protected then watching a number in task manager as long as the ram usage is acceptable. So to decrease the ram to the same level as nod32 v2 i think a lot of features and enhacements have to be removed and changing the GUI will not make much difference. In that case i prefer the 40mb with a software that can protect my computer compared to 12mb with a antivirus software which is not up to the threats we face today. Especially since 40mb of ram is close to nothing on modern computers.

I find it hard to believe that anyone would actually notice much difference based on the ram usage with nod32 v2 and v3 on a modern computer. So just ignore that number in task manager and i'm sure everything will be just fine. Someone might have a old computer with less ram, but Eset cannot develop less secure software with less features to help out those people which would most likely run them out of business. Nod32 v2 is still available for those that cannot use nod32 v3 because of the ram usage.

I'm pretty sure Eset try to keep the ram usage as low as possible with newer versions, but if they had to keep the ram uage at the same level as nod32 v2 i don't think there would be many new features in the future.

    Hello everyone.

Many people are fond of the looks of it went NOD32 V2 version 3. People said that more heavy interface.

I'm just looking very carefully between the two versions and the level of detection, and v3 is better than v2. and I like that and it makes me feel safer. ESET trust

NOD32 V2 consumption level EGUI consumes between 2 to 3 mb about and what would be the EKRN 32 MB - V3 consumes EGUI 2.72 MB and EKRN 42/43 MB Get your conclusions.

what many are afraid that NOD32 is becoming a new popular Norton Antivirus by the excessive consumption of resources.

Thanks to all who are participating in this post.

I am still trying to figure out why this is even a question. If you want the v2 interface, use v2. As for memory usage, if you're worried about it buy more RAM. You can get 4GB for about $50. I remember when 4MB was $199. Yes, that is 2,000 times more expensive. Worrying about things like an outdated v2 interface and low memory usage holds back the advancement of all things computer related.

Where do live? 4 GB of RAM does not exist here in Argentina. only get 2 gb kingston s to u$s 33.

My fear is that NOD32 antivirus becoming a heavy and lost prestige

You make a fair point, not everyone lives in the U.S. However 2 GB should still be fine, and if your machine is not up to running the current version, older versions are still available. Even Vista should be fine with 2 GB, XP would be ok with 1 GB. Ultimately this software is still not a pig, and the memory thing really should not be an issue. Even v4 is still waaay lighter than most of the competition, if not all of it. There are folks that would open a browser with 50 tabs and complain that their AV software uses more than 1 MB of RAM. It just doesn't make any sense.

Using XP Home SP3 here with 2 GB RAM.
To be honest I don't even notice that NOD32 is running unless I visit a dodgy website and get the Red Box popping up. I game online on a nightly basis and have no probs with NOD32.

Back on topic I personally think that the GUI for v4 is the best yet. Very informative and easy to use.

For those that still prefer v2.7 all I can say is then stick with it but you'll be missing out in the long run. Also don't forget that ESET needs to make a profit to exist and as such need to expand their userbase and they won't do that if they stay with the 2.7 GUI.

The first two things crossed my mind when I heard of NOD32 v4 were its performance and efficiency. Old NOD32 users must have put their trust in ESET's products. Not only do they would like to see improvement in its next products, they must would like to have the same experience they've ever had in the previous products. It goes without saying that performance and efficiency are the two things that most of the customers must be looking forward to.

In the other hand, new NOD32 users might not share the same opinion. Instead, first impressions do really count. They usually judge a product by its apperances. They must have been made a good impression before they converted to ESET's products. To do this, adequately convincing and reliable information must have been provided to them. That's why GUI does help to build up customers' trust in a product sometimes. I hope ESET will improve its products' GUI and at the same time, keep up the excellence of its products. That would be the best of both worlds. By the way, I'm looking forward to seeing improvement in ESET websites. I can't find too much detailed information about its products.

If it was possible, I'd let this interface, but add function, which support other skins (old from v2). On the other hand I don't want ESS/NOD32 as circus program, because on the first place is security.

I remember that when the beta came out and saw ESET 3.0 interface surprised me change. I expected to read the version 2.80 comes out or something. Here are more successful in Latin America and appreciated the style of 2.70 from 3.0 (and not just because we have pc's oldest U.S. or Europe) Many (like me) it seemed a more serious and that the corporate version 3.0

2.70 I always liked because he was placed on the detection and not the point. sometimes "the most beautiful is not the best"

Besides the end-user always ends up calling the technician to configure it as the end user does not want to get into something you do not understand.

do a test and to seek public opinion in general chats and forums and will see what they say.

I currently use version 3.0.672 Spanish. I am hoping that the release version 3.0.684 to see that there were changes, but I think the 2.70 again at any time.

    Greetings

    Saludos
