i have a file that keeps showing up

every time i do a scan this file shows up.C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\WindowsMediaPlayer4.zip »ZIP »sbRecovery.ini - error - the file is password-protected.i have searched for it to delete it but i cant find it and the spy bot i have uninstalled it but the file keeps showing on the scan i have check in archives and email set.eny help would ba appreciated thanks...................

 

If your using XP clean/delete previous restore points(only if your pc is running OK!)If you wat to remove offending files manually and they are in a "restore point" these are stored in your "system volume information folder"

 

hi steve 1955.thats the first thing i did was turn off system restore and i also did a scan to find the system volume information folder and the search showed nothing.i just reinstalled spybot but i dont know what good that did...........

Do you have explorer set to show hidden files and folders?

The All Users\Application Data folder is hidden by default.

The file you are looking for is a backup made by Spybot S&D by the way. Not sure if that was clear.

i when to tools folder options and show hiden holers and then i looked in windows for eny thing to do with spybot but i found nothing and then i did a search and found nothing............

Every time Spy bot fixes problems backups are created (in case you wish to undo the changes) It seems like they are encrypted archives so NOD can't scan them. If you want to get rid of them in Spy bot click on recovery than select all items and click on "purge selected items" Than when you scan your disk the error you have mentioned should no longer appear.

 

hi.ragamix. i found the recovery folder it has the spybot enterys and dsoe exploit from 1 to 9 just like the windows media player enterys.i think i can saflyb delete the hole folder but iam not shoure.......

 

To show system information folder you need to have "show hidden files and folders" ticked and"hide protected system files" unticked to access the folder you may have to change the security settings because normally(not always)only the system is allowed to access this folder,normally security has to be changed to allow even administrators to gain access.You should now be able to see one of these folders on each hard drive on your system,it may not help with this current problem but it is handy to know where the restore points are stored in case you need to delete an infected file in one of them

hi.steve i had to uncheck hide system folders to find the spybot restore folder.iam just dont know if i can delete the hole folder i think i can safly do it but do know.............

 

if you can now see it go into:- documents and settings/all users/application data/etc(cant remeber rest of path you gave!) and see if you can manually see the file thats giving you the problem if so delete it

 

i deleted all of them and i dont see enything on the scan its done and there gone thanks for all the help........

the easiest (and probably also safest) way of deleting the files is to use Spy bot - just as I have mentioned before - run Spy bot, click on Recovery than select all entries and click on "purge selected items" Normaly it should be safe to remove all those backups - I always do that and never had problems

 

hi.ragamix.i uninstalled spybot so all i did was find the folder and i deleted all the files that came up on the scan and i rescaned and there all gone ha.thanks for all your help..................
