I was just checking over the bootable media I made, and I found something not mentioned in the User Manual.

In restore all partitions there is a check box for 'Restore Disk Signature'. It only appears when I chose to restore all partitions in 'Content Selection'. What is that? Any pros and cons to it?

This "Restore disk signature" option is also displayed if you restore only the MBR.

Oleg Lee of Acronis Support writes this about restore: "specify where MBR will" ??

When & how are we supposed to use this
" Restore Disk Signature" option? I cannot find where this is documented.

    mranybody and GroverH,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image

You should select the "Restore Disk Signature" option if you recover the archive of the entire hard drive to a new hard drive. Acronis program changes the signature by default during the recovery, this can lead to a discrepancy in functionality of several programs. For example, Acronis True Image creates scheduled tasks in accordance with the hard disk signature. If you restore the same disk signature, you don't need to re-create or edit the tasks created previously.

    Thank you.

    ok

so say you have 2 disk drives in removable caddies

you alternate between the 2 1TB disks

'A' is placed off premises in a secure location

and swapped back every few weeks with 'B'

could acronis be used to do differential backups to the alternating drives?

so what ever image file it finds, it does a differential backup from that point.

--if the disk signature is the same on both--

or can the program not do this kind of backup to different drives

    Hello rd555,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

We are sorry for delayed response.

The setup you described is possible. Moreover, the destination for the archive is not addressed by a signature, but simply by the path, so it's enough that the drives where archives are stored to are assigned to the same drive letter. The signature is used to address to the drives which are being imaged.

    Thank you.
