    Aigle,

May be, but the good news is they are still living and beating defense wall with providing outbound connection, so cheer up man :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

    Happy days

Yes, both are policy based sandboxes and work similarly by means of rights restriction for untrusted resources.

GeSwall has four protection levels with a redirect option to virtualise changes. DW offers a roll back for power users also. DefenseWall uses a simple allow/deny of trusted and untrusted policy.

GW uses Microsoft Management Console and has a fully configurable command line based console. DW uses its own protection and has a screen/fixed user interaction based console. DW resource protection offers simular options for the power user as GW concole. DW does recognise a program no matter where it is installed, with GW you have to use the default directories (other wise GW won't recognise). GW has a smart application wizzard to determine the rules needed to run a new or unknown program. At DW you have to ask Iliya or figure out yourself with resource protection.

Using Microsift internals is the reason why GW can't offer total untrusted file protection and DW can.

    Both plan outbound firewall protection.

When you like to tweak your security and invest time in programs, GW is the best option. When you want something running out of the box DW is your choice. Both work seamlessly (main difference with SBIE and SafeSpace, there you files in or out of the sandbox box)

I think it is a nice find of chris2busy to call GW a policy sandbox and DW a policy HIPS to point out there main difference virtualisation (GW) versus rollback (DW) with policy sandbox and policy hips.

It,s same whether u use fancy terms of HIPS, sandbox or whatever.

    Both are very similar infact.

    Hi,

Dou you happen to know how to isolate Google Chrome. It is not in the list of apps by GW yet. Whenever I try it does not work for me at all.
Did anyone have the same problem or it is due to my limited knowledge only?
Use vista basic32 and GesWall Pro.

Google Chrome has sandboxing integrated (Greenborder technology if memory serves me correct)so I'm not sure further isolation is necessary in that sense.I've not seen any feedback on how GC actually performs against malware though.

I am really glad to see that Geswall is still active and brought out this version with great improvements compared to the previous version :) To be honest when I first started to test programs I liked Geswall better than Defensewall  This was based on feeling. Both protect you well. But just like Kees1958 if you like to tweak a bit more Geswall would be the best option.

Well, they may not be dead but they're limping along. The fact that they still don't have 100% compatibility with Vista is a killer for me. Maybe 3.0 when it comes out in Dec 2009....
