You are talking about manually started backups with the above statement correct?

Yes. Please note my edit to the previous: the first incremental will be named ...2.tib.

So when you schedule a backup, it just automatically names the file the same name as the previous one? And that is why it over writes the previous file?

    Hello all,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

First of all, please make sure you use the latest build (9646), which is available at our web site . To get access to updates you should first register Acronis software here.

LostAgenda, our software rewrites a backup only when you schedule the full backup backup of the same type to one folder (e.g. one My Data Backup will not be rewritten by My Computer backup). If you assign different name to your backup - it does not rewrite.

    Thank you.

What happens if you scedule an incremental backup (as first backup) and select the option "Create a new full backup after 1 incremental backup"?

    My logic:

Because no Fullbackup is there to which the incremental or differential can be applied, 2009 is doing first a full backup. This should also be the first incremental backup so that the rule will next time create a new full backup and so on. Result multible Fulls....

ATI 12/2009 just wasn't designed to handle automated file mangement and tasks for Fulls. The designers just assumed home users would never want more than one full. It's basically a dumbed down design that makes things "simple".

You get a full backup and an incremental, then another full and another incremental, etc.

Not available to *all* users  : I'm still unable to obtain this update, no download link on the "my registered products" page.

I've asked this same question to Acronis support 10 days ago and got absolutely no response except automatic acknowledge of my support request.

You could schedule an incremental backup and "Create a new full backup after 0 incremental backups" Yes that is possible and it works.

I ahjave to say my reaction was "no way", but it does seem to work. I named my backup "testfull" and I've got:
    testfull.tib
    testfull(1).tib
    testfull(2).tib, etc.

Not as nice as it could be, but something.

It would be nicer if the filenames are including the date and time as in ATI 11 with BackupLocations.

Am i missing something in the new Version?

Still no Backuplocations where you have not to set a filename?

So if you want to have automatic backups you always have:
    mybackup.tib (1. Full)
mybackup(1).tib (2. Full) and so on....

I have registered, but the 9646 version is not available (on the French web site), only 9621 is available.

Is it possible that the French team has forgot to update their web site ?

I would really like to use the software I have purchased (and I don't want to use the very old version that is available : 9621).

Thanks for your answer shieber .

For the first full release it's obvious there is a lot of translate work to do (from ATI 11 to ATI 2009).
But for intermediate builds, which only have bug fixes, there isn't much to translate, so the localized update should be really fast.

For example, the German version came very fast after the US release (a few days), and the French one is still not available (the last release was a long time before 9646).

I am mostly interested in this two points, have anyone tried and got it to work? I did not find any references in UI to rotations/backup policies or a way to specify location like used to be able to do ATIH11.

    (1) Backup Policies (Rotations) (back by popular demand from Acronis True Image 11, Rotations makes it possible to customize archive chains and automatically consolidate or delete outdated slices! This set and forget feature expands on the functionality of its ATIH 11 predecessor by adding the ability to automatically consolidate slices.)

    (2) Improved Automatic Consolidation feature – it is now possible to apply backup policies in the tasks (the functionality is similar to Backup Location Management in earlier product versions)

Hey, I just purchased TI 2009 and downloaded TI 2009 Home Edition. And now I see there is an update (#9646). How can I tell what the current version is? I don't see an About box anywhere in the user interface.

Also, could you please look at my thread entitled "How to Backup Full followed by several incremental updates" issued today 12/18/2008. I think your thread brings up some of the same questions that I have. Perhaps I need #9646o_O

    Thanks,

To see the build you can press Alt on the keyboard to make the standard menu appear. Then select Help >> About. (See this post by GroverH).

You are right, the French site is still at a down level (9621), i am still waiting for a demo at 9646 level (and later for an update 9646 if the demo convince me). I am still using TI11, and will purchase TI2009 only if the 9646 version correct most of the knows issues.
    Still waiting.....

I have probably botched my relationship with Acronis -- but when expect a reliable backup and the application (TI 2009) user interface isn't itself reliable in setting up jobs I question using the product.

I went ahead and faxed my comments and concerns to the USA headquarters, e-mailed it to consumer sales, and chatted with customer service (who the fellow, Nick, was very responsive in looking up the support cases I have submitted.

I just purchased the upgrade and even though the critical build #9646 has been released for three weeks, the download was older than that! So right from the start, the basic job settings I struggled with (above) didn't work.

And then with #9646 -- you can't reliably edit/adjust a job setting (like to add an incremental day of the week entry) and your exclusions and password appear to be duplicated. There are probably other things and it appears that the options in the UI wizard just became too complicated for the engineers to handle and defaults and smart duplication logic simply needs to be overhauled.

Then yo best wait for the build after 9646, if there is one. 9646 fixes some but not all of the serious problems.

Acronis Support just sent me a mail, saying they don't know when the French version will be available.
They suggest to switch my french license to an english license, which would allow me to use the english 9646 version.
    I have agreed.

I hope the english version works well with foreign language characters in files when doing backups...

Is it possible that an english version would have problems backuping this kind of file ?
    d:\softs\Nom_à_contenu_français_été.txt

    Thanks.

    And this is Sunday.
    They work on Sunday !

Ok, maybe I will change my mind about the quality of Acronis Support.

Tomorrow I try the installation, will let you know.

Can you please explain how you managed to be allowed to switch license language (especially to obtain a so fast response from Acronis support).

I'm in the same situation as you but the difference is that I have absolutely no answer from Acronis support since my original message, sent more than two weeks ago.

Well, the very slow part is between your first mail and their first answer.
    Then it's very fast.

-On November 29th, I have sent an email (in French) to Acronis Support, asking when the French version of build 9646 will be released.
-On december 17th, they answered they don't know.
-On december 18th, I replied that I would like to use the English version, because I don't want to wait anymore.
-On december 19th, they answered, providing a link to the English version, and saying that I would need to switch my French licence into an english one to be able to use it completely (otherwise it would be an evaluation).
-On december 21st, I replied that I accept to switch from French to english.
-On december 21st (a Sunday, a few hours after my previous e-mail), they answered, providing my new licence, and explaining that my French licence has been canceled to allow the English one to be registered.

I have registered the new licence, and installed build 9646 without any problem.

As you see, the first contact is very slow, but then you have an opened case number, and there is someone that answers eveything you ask very fast.
