TI 2009 and the secure zone

I would like some clarification on the whole secure zone thing. I like the idea of not requiring the CD to boot acronis in a disaster, but I don't keep any of my backups on my computer (laptop).

Now I will say that the auto-consolidation (if reliable, I am still waiting to reach my limit) is a huge improvement

(though I found if you accidentally open and start the editing process of the task, it can change the file name of the set to the last incremental file and then you incremental becomes a full backup. The auto fill in/selections need to be off when editing a task, or smarter than that.)

Back to my question... Is the secure zone for all your backups, or just critical boot information?

The documentation gave me the impression that is was absolutely required to use Acronis Startup Recovery Manager" Is that the case.

What I want is to continue to backup onto my attached media. Have it auto-consolidate so all I have to do is attach the media and say run, and I would like to be able to start Acronis without the CD should I need to use the backups on the attached media.

Is there a formula for that?

Since I have packed a couple of other items in, I was also curious how to access the feature that will tell a backup to run say at boot time if a specific media is present and not throw an error, but simply not run if the media is absent. The features is reported to be present on the web site, but I have not found the option.

I mean telling Acronis to do an incremental backup at startup IF a specific drive (attached eSATA storage) is available, or to automatically do a backup if a specific device is attached.

We are sorry for delayed response.

Acronis Startup Recovery Manager isn't a requirement, it's a convenience.

Please notice that the option to run backup when media is attached if at the scheduled time the media was missing is available only for USB flash drives. Please see chapter 8.1 "Creating scheduled tasks" of Acronis True Image Home 2009 User's Guide for details.

Ok, so I don't see the option because my destination has not been a USB device. Correct?

In that case, I would suggest consider making a change here to account for eSATA connections. I have been moving all my external devices to eSATA particularly for backup purposes. This option would be preferable in those circumstances.

If the option of "When media is attached" were available all the time and checked by default, or available as an additional event choice, would it hurt anything? I am not sure if you can distinguish between eSATA and regular SATA (or internal vs external), but on my laptop I would use scheduling if I had this option available. Right now it has to be manual.

Actually there is no such an option to create backup on Windows boot, you can create Acronis bootable disc, boot your system and create backup using it. Acronis bootable disc can be created within the program using Media Builder option (Tools -> Media Builder). See user guide for more details.

I'm referring to the same option as with a scheduled task, "If missed, run the task at startup"

It would be nice to have the same options for eSATA as there is for USB in terms of detecting or setting task conditions based on "when media is attached"
